quick question: are you able to export any particle geometry nodes animations into gltf model by using this MDD method you did where you export it to mdd first than import the mdd and export it into gltf?
@IZ.3d2 ай бұрын
Almost... the rule here is that the vertices count has to stay the same throughout the animation. That means no spawning particles and no deleting particles otherwise you will get an error. In most particle animations I can work around this by having all the particles I need constantly, and when I want them to disappear, I scale them to 0

@@Bingbangbong28 Yes, I do. I already left my info in the description of the video. So message me on CGTrader for more details... I can't give you a price here without knowing what does the animation look like and how complex it would to recreate. You can also attach the blender file in the message on CGTrader and I will reply to you quickly there.. here is a link www.cgtrader.com/designers/iz-mdverz

so we can use to create fracture vertex animation and then import it to unreal engine?
@IZ.3d4 ай бұрын
Yes, but you just have to keep in mind that the vertex count of the animation has to be constant for shapekeys to work otherwise you will get an error... there are many ways to create it using things like geometry nodes and it depends on the animation you are creating itself

Thanks for the good video. I subscribed to your channel. If I apply this method, can I export geometry node animations in GLB, which is inherently impossible to output?
@IZ.3d8 ай бұрын
Yes, I use it a lot to export animations I make with geometry nodes. it doesn't work for all types of animations, it needs a constant vertices count and it only animates the location. But it helped me massively, animations I made like the dust, rain, fireworks and many more were originally made with geometry nodes then rigged with this method.

it depends on the type of animation and its technical details. If you can export it to alembic (.abc) first, then you can try my short video on how to export alembic to glTF if you want me to take a look at it you can message me on my CG Trader page and send me the file to check it out

I'm a visual design student at university and it would be really helpful to my studies if I could learn a bit about how this was made, do you mind if we have a discussion about it?
@IZ.3d9 ай бұрын
Ok, I will try to put it simply. It's made in the 3d software Blender. So I designed and textured the flaps that's the easy part. Then using geometry nodes I instanced those flaps in the familiar grid shape, and by using some creative solutions, I was able to control the rotation of these instances with a text input. It took weeks to make it this customizable with geometry nodes, and it would take hours to explain how everything is made in detail, if you get the project file you will see the entire geometry nodes setup and explore how it works if you have a specific question feel free to ask me
@maxmoore32089 ай бұрын
@IZ.3d Thank you for your reply, I have made a version before in blender 3.3, but it was manually key framed, and it looked less authentic and took a lot of time to create each title. What I'm looking for in my project is to create one like this and run it through a manipulation/projection software called isadora. This way we can create an installation in which we could have a projected version of a split flap display on the wall, displaying the titles of the playlist we have running through the sound system in the student bar. And while the one I have would work, it couldn't be easily edited in case we had a change, and it is not nearly as impressive functionally as this one.
@IZ.3d9 ай бұрын
@@maxmoore3208 sounds like a really cool project. This was the exact point of why I made this product, to make a split flap display that is intuitive and customizable. I have shared the first step of this product for free, it's the way to turn text input "String" into numbers or "float" values in geometry nodes. these values are then mapped to control the rotation of the flaps. if you are interested "String To Float" is free on my gumroad izmdverz.gumroad.com/l/stringtofloat let me know if you still have questions, and good luck with your project

Hi, this is awesome, just a question, can you change the shape of the flap? to add fillets or extra details for closeups?, I only saw that you could change the scale of them. Thanks!
@IZ.3d10 ай бұрын
Yes you can, the flaps are separate objects in a collection that are then instanced for each slot. so you can edit these flaps objects in their original collection, and it will change them in the geometry nodes system

Thank you so much! Any idea how make this work for an fbx export?
@IZ.3d Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately fbx format doesn't support vertex animations or shapekeys. So you can't export it directly to fbx... But if it's a relatively simple animation, then you can recreate it with armatures and export it to fbx that way
