I forgot the name of the concept but its basically when one group/movement takes a song with one meaning then adopts it and reinterprets/changes it for their own purposes. Dixie is a good example of this. Lincoln liked the song even praising it at one point (supposedly) and the Union made their own version. Same exact tune just different words/interpretation.
