I think that different monuments represent different things, and destroying art purely because it's guilty by association in ones eyes is an act that imbodies the evil one wishes to destroy. Also the first vandalization of this sculpture was done by the museum themselves when they pressure washed the original finish off because they think the glory of whiteness is greater than any art.

There is more to this story I learned during a guided tour there. A number of the pieces shattered off during the attack were stolen by onlookers and taken away. The Pope went on the radio and asked the people to bring the pieces back immediately as their souls were in danger. All the pieces were recovered.

Any 1 person trying to dictate to the whole world just because they may believe something is Autocratic.. Think about it.

I want you to take notice if you're one of these weak-willed slow brained people that do stupid shit like attack art to get your message across. Notice that she said "he shouted something about religion and art". I'll guarantee at the time he thought his view was just the end all be all smartest thing anybody had ever thought of. Now realize that whatever the hell he said has gotten mashed down into "he shouted something about art and religion". Nobody gives a fuck what he was trying to get across. 'Nuff said.

That he was an idiot. An artist created a piece spending days, months patiently chiseling, and some crazy zealot destroys it

But when an image of Jesus Christ soaked in urine was displayed as an art, nobody, not even the Vatican condemned it, why? Because no image of Mary was there anyway, only Jesus.

I got to see this in person in 1984, I was 12. It took my breath away. I never knew this happened! Disgusting that someone would do that to such a masterpiece.

I'm not even religious, and I love this piece. The ability to carve stone as hard as granite or marble and make it look that realistic is a master of his craft.

I remember seeing this statue at a he worlds fain in nyc in 1964. I wonder if it was the real thing?
@thomasgansevoort9299 күн бұрын
Yes, it was the real one in the 1964 World Fair. I don't think such a thing could happen now, at least I hope not because it came to America by ship.

I think that you should never mention the man’s name who damaged it, nor give any credence to his political cause his name, and Michaelangelo should never be in the same sentence

That is the most moving piece of art I’ve ever been to see. It’s magnificent even removed from a religious context. Especially if you have a child.

I'm of the opinion that anyone who intentionally damages priceless antique works of art should be jailed for a minimum of 5 to 10 years depending on the piece and the amount of damages

It's insane that this video doesn't have any comments yet. Thank you for providing so much imagery. If you're more interested in the subject, I'd definitely recommend "Death of an Artist", the podcast. They dedicate an entire season to this with interviews and expose deeper problems within the art world.
