This was the very first video that came up when I googled my problem, which was exactly like yours, even down to the tailgate open message. Your solution did work perfectly and I do have a hard tonneau cover but was able to pry open enough to get a long open end wrench into it with tailgate up and catch the release wire on one side and then leaving that side wedged open and repeating on other side. No damage to tailgate or cover… this video was a life saver. Also while open I played around with the built in switch that had stopped working months ago and googled that to find that the switch has a factory recall on it… so all good news at the end of the day! Thanks

In battle the advantage of super heavy Long Swords by one trained long to wield it, (like myself getting good at hand splitting wood[3,000fc cds)- I run 5/6/8/10 +14lb mauls = an axe is a flyswatter in my hands) & so the swordsman must be very strong+skilled to be able do blast right thru normal enemy sword play in battle day after day long battles thru the history of Western Civilization = before relevant firearms..! For timeless craftmanship the Japanese original Kanana($100k-250k for an original) used by Samuri Warriors is tops for quality in the steel and edge retention for their blades(stay sharp slicing right thru bone) even today has not been duplicated = is truly amazing; - as well as the design is so fast in the right hands is more deadly in tight close quarters fighting then a hi-capacity Glock literally taking off arms legs & cutting men in half: second by second slicing thru a crowd of 20 fighters in a mere 10seconds...! To get an idea of them in action, 👀 the great movie~ "The Last Samuri" Japanese version of my fav- "The Last of the Mohicans"
