I've been to Leigh, got my current gas cooker from there. And hasn't that town got the unenviable title of being the biggest town in Britain without any railways? There used to be loads all over the whole area, but all gone now, the nearest being the one remaining line through Atherton. How about some pictures of the old railways there? And there's not much chance of restoring the Leigh line now that there's a daft concrete busway laid on it.

These photos always fill me with nostalgia for times past. I left Leigh when I was 21 about 50 years ago when it was at the height of its prosperity. I've gone back periodically and the change makes me want to weep. Keep up the good work! Your videos are very well put together. Your pacing and choice of music are spot on!

Really good. I think some captions describing the buildings and locations would help me and others who left Leigh many years ago. Great job.

I have a lot of affection for this place. I’m from Wigan got my first job as a printer here aged 16, until aged around 22. Lots of memories of that print factory that was an old mill right on the canal. Used to go drinking with the older guys ( they were ancient n their 20s) at places like fletchers, and a pub called the Garrick, to mention just a couple. 😊 Always before and since been to watch our rugby league teams play each other.

Thank you for the memories. I grew up in Plank Lane and think of the time we grew up as children. As My Dad used to say , We were poor but we were Happy. Everyone helped one another especially during the Strikes.

Great to see some of the lads I used to play cricket with at Westleigh Meths in the late 70's early 80's. There's no landlords like George anymore, lots of pubs in Leigh around that time had character but none quite like that in "The Bells" and I only did one lock in. Kev Cooper

Liked the shot of the BICC works. Worked there for a short while in the mid 60s making the cable reels whilst waiting to hear if I had got an apprenticeship at English Electric
