It's $460 to replace the failed windows regulator for 2014 Model S driver side window...$240 for the windows regulator & $220 for the labor....I wish I felt more confident about this & save on the labor costs but I second thought, $220 may be well spent letting Tesla service do this instead. However, the video was quite informative.

US or Canadian dollars? My driver door window sounds crunchy. I see Dorman and RockAuto sell a super cheap replacement part which is what I plan on buying (and DIY).

I'm in the process of replacing a broken regulator in my Model S, so I've been using your very helpful instructional video to guide me along. However, I've run into a predicament. Based on your video, I believe the correct sequence for removing the regulator is to remove the window glass first. Since you started out with the window in the fully up position, you were able to access the two cutout ports and loosen the fasteners that clamp the window to the regulator. In my case, the window is stuck all the way in the down position. The window is completely inside the door. No part of the window sticks out, so there's nothing for me to grab onto to try to pull the window up. I tried attaching two strips of tape to either side of the window and pulling the window up. I was able to pull it up only a couple of inches. Once I let go of the tape, the window drops all the way back down. It seems there's some kind of obstruction that's preventing me from pulling it up further. Then I tried grabbing onto the bottom of the window with my hands and pushing it up. Again, it feels like there's some kind of obstruction that's preventing me from pushing it up further. Even though the motor still works, since the regular is broken, I can't rely on that to raise the window to the correct height in order to access the cutout ports to loosen the window from the regulator. So, without being able to remove the window first, how can I remove the regulator? I'm hoping you can help me work through this predicament, so I can move forward with the rest of your video. Thank you very much.

I had a lot of trouble pulling window out of front clip. Clip was released by pressing and pulling up on window, but had to pull super hard to get window out of clip. I also had a single white electrical connector that did not have a receiving component on door panel. Not sure what upgrade my 2015 P90D was missing. I also marked each harness with matching colored electrical tape. Each harness had different release technique- PIA. Had trouble adjusting new regulator height to attach window back. Had to keep reattaching driver door panel and carefully closing door with panel loose to be able to activate window control. If window was up, I couldn’t reach outside door handle to re-open door since interior handle still disconnected. Then had to crawl out passenger side - PIA. Would be nice to be able to disconnect window controls, but they seem to be glued in place. Got it done, but struggled. Thanks for video.

Thank you for this video, it helped me replace a failed regulator motor on my rear door. I will add that depending on which door you’re working on it can be quite hard to locate and press the plastic pin to release the window. You guys got a little lucky because on the front drivers side it lines up with one of the holes. Rear drivers side was a huge pain.

Royal pain to get this pin to release! Plastic pin vs bolt saved Tesla how much money? That pressure clamp is insane!

You make that prying of the panel look so easy. I just gave up before I scratched up my paint. Too difficult to do this. Just like everything else in the Tesla cars to take apart to fix inside.

I'd also add that it is very important to re-tape all those holes again, because if you don't, the side airbags won't deploy. There is a sensor in the door cavity which detects a change in pressure from a side impact, but if those holes are left uncovered, the air will escape and the airbags will fail to trigger.

Mr. Patrick, I have a 2013 Tesla S P85 The passenger's rear window is not working properly, it's goes up a few inches and returns itself. Do you still in contact with Mr. Goodyear to find out what would be the cause? Thank you in advance and looking forward to resolved the problem.

Thank you for this guide! Had quite the similar experience as described earlier. In th end, my window regulartor motor assembly wasn't attached to the door, and during winter the steel wire jumped off one of the wheel in the corner. After a few hours fighting with the assembly (getting the steel wire trough the right places again), I managed to get it back together. All assambled back together and added 3 screws to fit the motor to the door. Fingers crossed and hope this works. If not, well know i've disassambled this once, so I can do it again :)

Little late to the party, but I just changed pump in my 2015 70D. Only removed bottom two pins and pulled liner back. Pump is right there. Lost prime or something cuz it took a while to start flowing again. Pleasantly surprised Tesla would sell the part and that it was a straightforward fix.

Tim... are you ever lucky. In all the years i have been out with ice bergs, and that is many decades, i have only seen one founder. Ian and I, on his boat, were more or less in the same area back of Kelly's about half way to Bell island when she started to roll. The noise was like a machine gun firing with the odd grenade thrown in for additional sound effect.... Took her a while to find a new equilibrium. Like you were had stood off a fair bit but the wave was such we took it bow on. What i found fascinating was when she stopped rolling we were looking as a new "face" which had not seen the like of day for centuries.... lord only knows how many. No cell phones at the time... Stay safe ns stay well... cheers...Jim

Thank you!!!!! Replaced mine today and ran into that same issue that it didn't work after I plugged the new motor in. It makes sense it will only work with the door closed until it is calibrated and knows how far up it can go, but I sure wished they would have mentioned this in the service manual. Was stuck on this until I stumbled on this video. Got it all back together and it works great.

I just got one today from the Tesla service center. It was $240 + tax. Or you can take your chances on ebay, they run about half of that but who knows how long they will last? I also saw that the ones on ebay were revision E or G and the new one from Tesla is rev L, so it might be a better part.

Can you please let me know how to manually roll down the window at 4:25 to get to the pressure switch/pin shown in 3:25? My motor is broken and so the window needs to be lowered to access the pin. Thanks!

@markusstrobl1067 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! I was worried about that as well but luckily my cable was broken so I could move the window by grabbing it enough to get to the rear bolt and front clip. If your cable is good but the motor is dead I think I would try cutting the cable. You can't buy just a new motor, the motor and regulator comes as an assembly so you don't lose anything by cutting it.
