I had a gravity survey mark under the tower. Did pad survive the tower fall? What is future of site?

Surreal. That is a loss of capacity for atmospheric sciences research and a sad statement on the value that we place on long term observational science and infrastructure. Thanks for at least making this loss part of a historical record. Once the house are up all will be forgotten...

This tower has been my homing beacon since I was a child (45-some odd years). I always knew we were close to home on a road trip when I saw the flashing lights. Even though we lived in Lakewood/West Metro area. Its flashing white lights could be seen from anywhere, anytime of day. She will be missed!

Explosive charges at two of the guy-wire anchor points? I did not see flash/smoke at the base of the tower. Did gravity pull the entire 1000' tower down by simply removing two of the guy-wires? Very cool, however it was done! And very good photography.

You are correct, there were no explosives at the tower base. The ~300,000 pounds of force from the tension on the other guy wires is what pulled it over!

What a pity, big loss to the atmospheric science community. Thanks for recording this.

Agreed, it was a disappointment that it had to be removed. It's not going to be easy to build a new one like it.
