With all that grass, i can see soo much potential for some deeps beds 😅. Shall try that insulation next time for the bananas. The trellis fencing is a strange choice for the neighbour. i must admit, i would be a bit cheesed off it isnt all the same 😅 but sure you can work with it.

I would plant as much as you can into the ground come spring. Unprotected pots are far more likely to freeze right through and you might end up with root damage.

thank you

My cordylines are the same. We had -8°C in scotland. The one next to the house in a protected corner is fine. But the rest are flopped. I'm leaving mines. If the leaves are damaged then no point doing anything with them till spring and hope new ones grow.
@neilyenny2 жыл бұрын
Cordyline Red Star should be OK as long as the crown is ok and roots didn't get frost damage. I would be tempted to leave them until spring and then cut off any dead growth. At least the leave will afford some extra protection to the plant if there are further cold snaps. Like you said they are likely to grow from the bottom again of worst comes to worst. Grateful for the higher temperatures at least for a while.

Hi Pat, I'm in Milton Keynes and have been growing a range of tropicals for a few years; I have grown 5 very large canary island date palms, in pots, and they have stayed outside for the last 2 winters. I've wrapped the pots in bubble wrap, mulched around the base with scrunched up fleece, stood them on feet (to allow any water to drain away - to avoid root rot)tied them up and covered them in fleece, or fleece bags. I noticed that your pots on your patio are standing on saucers filled with water,; could i suggest you removed the saucers and stand them on feet because when the saucers of water freeze it could damage the roots. I can suggest some very good KZbin channels and specialist suppliers of tropical plants. Musa bajoos are great, i bought them as small plants and planted them out in May ( ive just cut off the leaves and wrapped them up and mulched them for winter, along with the cannas, and other plants. I'm 70 and feel its never too late to start. Let me know if you want details of youtube channels, specialist plant suppliers and seed suppliers. Lynda
@tikitropical2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynda Thank you your message.I have infact removed the saucers as I noticed they were standing in water. I plan to plant the canary island date palm in the ground next spring and see if they survive the winter,currently the pots are bubble wrapped and tied together but not fleeced they are under a canopy( fingers crossed) I hope next spring to get musa bajoos,I have seen a number of youtubers . Do you split your Musa Bajoos pups? also looking at cannas but in pots.
