We have strict laws here in Ireland with regards to animal welfare, and here at Aran Sweater Market, we are proud to say we are second to none when it comes to how the farmers treat their animals. We are predominantly an agricultural country, so therefore we would be massively invested in the care of our sheep and lambs! It is well known that the farmers we work with would treat the sheep like their children in most cases, with the utmost care and respect. We have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to mulesing. This is not a practice we agree with or that we would ever consider working with. We take healthy and appropriate measures to ensure the health of our sheep is the top priority, and that they are looked after in a safe an humane way, using safe and appropriate handling procedures. As for sourcing wool from outside Ireland for the merino products we stock, we are just as strict with regards to animal welfare when we source from outside Ireland, we would only source our merino wool from outside Ireland when needed, as merino wool is extremely rare in Ireland. We are just as conscious when we source this as we are with the wool sourced from within Ireland. Hope this helps ya have a good one 🙂
