Hello, by any chance can you recommend a shoulder rig setup? Thinking about ordering this! Thank you!
@mid49films9 күн бұрын
We are working on a shoulder rig that will have an ARRI dovetail on top and ARRI rosette grips. It should be available later this year. For now, there are some offerings from Wooden Camera that do a similar thing.

Amazing! Cannot wait to kit my C400 out with this (and that nice DB-8 bistro box) once it's in hand. I personally have no interest in the Tascam unit over your audio/TC/G-lock breakout system. What are the chances of you coming up with a system for the R5C? I've frankensteined what I'm more or less looking for, and it's great, but there are a few pain points that I haven't found a workaround for. Would love to discuss more.

Some great products. It makes the c400 more appealing. Regarding be tascam, can it mount on the side rail? Always better to be away from the operator. On top it starts to look like the first c300 clam shell.
@mid49films13 күн бұрын
We could make a shoe-based mount to put it on the side rail. Something like a female cold shoe to a NATO clamp, but it would need to be at a 90º angle. It is about 1/3 the size of the camera though so it will add quite a bit of bulk anywhere it goes.

Very well thought out system, the quick release aspect of the battery plate is genius, as is the mini XLR to full size adaptor. Awesome stuff as always! As for audio, I wouldn't bother with Tascam and feel most people spending $8k and up on a camera body are in a similar boat. All of our C300 Mark III's have the Canon EU-V3 Expansion Units which give the camera's 4 independent XLR Inputs, but realistically any time we need more than 2 audio inputs it is almost always a multi cam shoot and audio is being fed into a field recorder.

This looks like a good option. Hard to gauge distance in the video but would I be correct in thinking that a small FIZ kit like the tilta nucleus 2 wouldn’t reach a lens from the position of the top rails mounts? Thanks heaps!
@mid49films19 күн бұрын
The distance from the top handle rod clamp to the center of the lens is about 100mm where the baseplate standard is 85mm. If you need to mount a single rod, check out the ARRI Rosette to 15mm Rod Clamp which is almost exactly the same distance to the lens as a baseplate rod: www.mid49.com/products/arri-rosette-to-15mm-rod-clamp

That battery plate solution and breakout box may actually sway me to upgrade my C70 to the C400 instead of the C80 that just got announced. I've been on the hunt for a system that would help me shift from the SWIT BPA60 batteries w/ the DTap (which I use to power my SmallHD 702 Touch) that pokes right into my sternum. The final straw would be a similarly bright 5" or 7" monitor with camera control that ideally only needs the USB-C cable to work (to avoid excess cables like the SmallHD/RED monitor system).
@mid49films19 күн бұрын
I'm glad you like it! I am curious about what is possible out of the USB monitor port and if Canon will be releasing new monitor options that would use it. A 5-inch monitor would be amazing.
@clayterrell158019 күн бұрын
I would rather more mounting positions over the option to use things like the tascam xlr. I don't see a lot of people with a c400 ever being interested in using that adapter for audio. The side bracket for audio is way better and more useful. That looks amazing.

My hope is that more wireless transmitters will adopt the Canon shoe like DJI did with the Sony multi shoe. Sony makes an adapter for their wireless lavs that direct connects through the shoe on Sony cams and it’s a great way to add dual channel lavs to your system without adding a ton of bulk. But right now I don’t see anyone using the tascam unit on the c400
@sethcoogan20 күн бұрын
I agree. I own the Tascam and always use it while holding my breathe (reliability concerns). Hard to imagine Canon is creating hotshoe tophandle pass-through functionality just for this device. I'm holding out hope that other accessories are coming soon.
@avdcam20 күн бұрын
@@sethcoogan I think it's just new as a mount and Canon just doesn't make as many accessories as Sony does. That being said, Canon puts great pre amps in their cameras and has a history of powerful expansion units including small audio units that used to sit on the top of the camera. I think the unifying the expansion hotshoe across their cameras is a good call but it's also not that different than Sony who while they have the same multi function hot shoe on a ton of cameras I know a lot of operators who never use them and literally only recently has a third party ever made a compatible device (thanks dji!). The C400 has hidden expansion ports that might mean expansion backs like the C300/C500 in the future. So while it remains to be seen, I think that having the multi function shoe will allow for new accessories, hoping for more in the future.

Can you install the DSMC3 RED 5-PIN TO DUAL XLR ADAPTER instead of the AB-1? I really like your plate and EB-1! I already have the original dual xlr adapter and so getting the side plate and the EB-1 would only make sense for me if I can mount the xlr adapter by red somewhere nice.

You could probably mount the RED adapter on the 3/8-16 hole toward the front of the Side Plate, but there is a chance the XLR cable ends might collide with the EB-1.
