It shows in the book that the pitch/slope is 6/12 on the overbuild and 4/12 on the first roof. The pitch/slope determines how high the ridge on the overbuild goes. When you change the overbuild from 4 to 6 the roof has a higher slope therefore going higher on the original roof.

Hi Jay, you are correct. The removed the general knowledge portion of the test on level 1 & 2 last January. They have made the test harder but easier to pass. Confusing huh? Here's why. No time limit, you can go in & out of the test as many times as you want w/o failing. You can also take the test as many times as you want in a year without having to repay. And the test doesn't change. If someone can't pass the test, they just aren't trying. Thanks for your comments and I guess it's time for me to update the video.

Thank you for your post. I agree 1000% with the "practice, practice, practice" comment. The problem with a lot of classes is they don't leave you with anything to practice or you haven't gotten the retention yet and can't remember how to do it. By giving youy access to the class for a year, there are no excuses for not practicing. You need the knowledge to practice and I am providing that knowledge for a year so the student can practice all they need. Thanks again for your input.

You have to depreciate it by a percent or fixed amount. Age / condition is taken based on the life expectancy of that item inserted by Verisk. Since you created the item, Xactimate doesn't know the life expectancy and therefore can't take a percentage of it based on that life expectancy. So you need to change the type of depreciation from Age/Condition to Percent or amount and you will enter the percentage or fixed amount based on your carrier guidelines.

@xactimatetrainingbycrestll5943 I was doing that at first but it wouldn't change. But I just figured out that I needed to go into the parameters tab under Claim Info and check the box for "Depreciate Non-Material" in order for the bid item depreciation to change. It also changed the depreciation for non-bid items but luckily I still had the correct depreciation amounts for those items noted. Thanks for answering my question though!

@@kenesco283 Hi Ken - you don't have to change it back to "Depreciate Non-Material" to get it to depreciate. The reason it didn't depreciate is because when you created the bid item, you put in the total amount and Xactimate did not know if it is material or labor so it didn't depreciate it. If you click on the Item Information button (the little button with an I next to the calculator in the unit price tab), it allows you to enter the material and labor for that Bid Item. Then Xactimate know how much to depreciate with the percent or amount of the material price you entered. That way it doesn't change the rest of your estimate since you don't have to check off the "Depreciate Non-Material" box. Hope this helps. By the way, it took a little bit of playing around with it to figure that out so thanks for the challenge.

I wish I could argue with you, but you are absolutely correct. Most people don't know what 2 dimensional is, but clearly know what 3 dimensional is. And you are also correct, I teach it that way because it is easy for people to grasp because they think 1 dimensional is flat (like the plan view). I went with the odds and in 7 years of teaching, you are the only one that has caught that intentional mistake. Good catch - Busted!!! I teach using that intentional mistake because my goal is for as many people to grasp and learn this very big program and if I can make it easier for them to remember short cuts, that's what I do. Perhaps if I explain the conflict it will trigger a memory and make the sudent remember the shortcut easier. Something to think about. From your excellent teaching ability, i assumed you did know the difference. I just felt like commenting on that strange detail in the programming, because yes, it is odd, isn't it? Excellent videos. I have enjoyed watching them as I study for the Level 1 and Level 2 Certification. Would you happen to have any videos in your archive discussing Line Items in greater detail? That appears to be the #1 thing I am struggling with. I think it would add great value especially for the newbies like myself.@@alfredrey5518
