Quick question. Once its dry and set, can you set a screw in it to hold just a plast frame?
@AbersonPlasteringКүн бұрын
No you will need to go all the way through to the wood framing behind the stucco or use a Molly bolt

I believe your suppose to use polyurethane caulk, not regular caulking. And the paper lath is suppose to be 2-4 inches on top and 4-6 inches in the sides. Just saying I do patch work all day full time out here in socal Orange County. Blessings 👍

Thanks for the video. If I want to put a window into a stucco wall, can I just frame inside, cut exact opening through stucco, and install block frame window (no nail in fin), by screwing directly outward through the window frame directly into the studs, and then just caulk around the whole window? Will that make it waterproof enough? Will just caulking around the whole window make it water proof, as there will be nothing getting tucked around it, just caulk around it?

So you don’t think a bonding agent is necessary on the existing perimeter?
@AbersonPlastering24 күн бұрын
@@chadhouse1375 as I’ve said, with hot mud I don’t worry about using a bonding agent as hot batches tend to stick with no problem. In addition, once it’s painted it seals any loose ends. If it’s just regular cement or regular stucco, then yes I would absolutely use a bonding agent
@JohnLee-im7iu28 күн бұрын
Are you supposed to paint on some bonding paint for the perimeter of the patch? It won’t stick to the paint will it?
@AbersonPlastering28 күн бұрын
it is recommended. Over the years I have let it go by the wayside because the hot stuff sticks to the paint really well. Not so much the regular stucco

@AbersonPlasteringАй бұрын
@@AlejandroRodriguez-xs4lt I just installed a window today on my own home. Click on my name below the video you watched and you will see many videos in my library with at least one video explaining window patchwork process. You need to crack the existing stucco back 6” from the window and install black felt paper. Available at big block stores. Caulk any holes. Install wire mesh. Try to tie new mesh in with existing mesh wire. Caulk any suspicious areas that might leak. Follow the directions in the video you just watched to get you closer to completion. Sorry one more question, I'm about to go to home depot to grab some materials but I guess I'm a little confused about the 60 min construction paper for the lath? Is that the same as the double backed paper metal wire lath? Is one better to use than the other? Or is doing a double layer of 60 min lath paper and then stapling the wire mesh lath a better system?
@AbersonPlasteringАй бұрын
hi sorry for late respond. Both of the systems you describe are good. The 60 minute is a good paper but standard grade d is good but it tears easier. You could also use roofing paper but it’s kind of heavy but you get my drift. You could also use just peel and stick window flashing. Sometimes you don’t have to peel off the paper if it’s to hard to do. Another way is to shove the peel and stick in the joint then put your wire on to hold it in place start at the bottom and work towards the top of the window. Best

"If you can, try to roll the bituthene up under the metal part underneath the box..." "Once again, my Bituthene is rolling up on the edge of the box" So are you are folding the Bituthene to stick partially on the edge of the box and transitioning it to stick to the black paper backing material. How much did you stick onto the metal box? Half an inch? Quarter inch? What are you caulking after you have the Bituthene in place? The edge of the half / quarter inch of Bituthene where it sticks to the metal box? or the right angle where the Bituthene transitions from the edge of the box onto the black backing paper?
@AbersonPlastering2 ай бұрын
@@dvk578 yes I’m trying not to stick more than an inch to the underside of the metal box because I don’t want it sticking out past the plaster repair.
