Great finished product. Looks amazing. Cool to see someone in BC making vids! Just building my hounds now and looking for inspiration on how I want them to look. Partially confused how they differ from standard reivers.

I got the complete set which was quiet expensive but since then I've never looked back, in fact I got rid of most my other paints, except for a few citadel colors that don't have a direct match. The triad system is the best though, I am not big on mixing colors myself on the pallet or make the lighter layers since it's really hard to make it match later with the rest of your squad/army. But now I don't have to worry about it since, for any color I may want to paint, I know it has a 6 tone gradient that I can access directly for layering and don't have to worry about it not matching later.

awesome video! when looking for balor brown, the pics i find are more of a brown instead of a yellow? is that right? Also did you use the air version or the regular layer pot?

Thank you! I Used the regular pot. And yes balor brown is a yellow brown and looks more on the brown side then yellow but makes for a good "in shadow" tone for yellows

Cold colours coverage isn't something that depends that much on manufacturer. By their nature violets, blues and greens cover better than oranges, reds and yellows. It's just how the pigments work.

There is a spot in the cockpit with a modeled on light bulb. I simply used a drill to drill it out and fill with a 3mm led. Wired the led then built the thing around it.

Do you use the ultra matte varnish on the metals? I have done that and it kills the shine. Do you brush or airbrush it on?

I do matte the metals as well as I typically use nuiln oil washes and they tend to be glossy so the matte helps reduce the extra gloss. It does create a more worn or used metal, great for the USRS but if you want more gloss to the metals you can mask the areas off before the varnish and gloss varnish the metals after I use an airbrush for ease of use sake. Brushing works as well but may need two coats 4 hours apart

Army painter has an extremely satin finish. The black is named Matt Black, not Matte Black. The spelling is different, so they will always have a little gloss to them. The complete set comes with matte varnish, so you can mix it in or layer it on to give a matte finish.

30 € in Europe? No Way. In germany (4th highest) its about 12,5 €. If you earn about 30€ an hour you are a top 20%ter in germany. Sweden: 399/193 is about 2 hours

I knew Swedens numbers were off TY. It was hard to find a baseline for the EU given the variance, I did think 30 was high at the time as that would have been 44 cad an hour which is middle income level cash but I also know income taxed tends to be higher and It's the average that Eurostat have me, google says Bulgaria has 477 eruo a month average income while Luxembourg has a 2571 month average so maybe the wide disparity leads to a disproportionately high average. I think the next time I do such a breakdown I'll pick a few EU countries instead of using the exact buckets GW did

@@VanCityMinis Yeah it is hard to compare and even if you calculate the taxes there is stuff like "purchasing power". Germany has a bigger net purchasing power than Luxembourg. Anyways, thinking about working for 66 hours to get a 2000 points of necron warriors makes me a bit sick.

One other way is get involved in the local hobby scene - most have WhatsApps groups for players to trade kits and parts. My experience has been good as most people have charged a fair price, been happy with a trade, or even sent me bits for free / only asked for postage because they just want someone else to use a kit that’s been sitting in their pile of shame for far too long. Speaking of the pile of shame - now could be a good time to start decreasing it! Hobby heresy I know 🤷‍♂️

Ahhh yes good call and I forgot Facebook Marketplace as well. Hit or miss depending on area but I've had good results on FB marketplace in Vancouver for warhammer purchases

1st Pirhana looks like it belongs to the Jamaican Bobsled team. Honestly I like the mix of models. Those old Kroot hold up today. Your painting skills have really come on over the years. The Pathfinders are great!

I was looking for some colour schemes for my Votann. Started with one and applied Straken Green as I wanted a military green as a base. Couldn't get my mind set on additional colors. Out of the blue, KZbin recommended your video and now I have some inspirition for colors. would a blueish cloak also work for the greatcoats of the Hernkyn Pioneers and the soon te be released Hernkyn Jaeger? Just wondering. :)

Blue should work fine it really depends on the tones. My gut says a deep blue base would work well as it's close to purple which compliments green so well. While a bright vibrant blue may be out of place That being said there's something very good looking about leather greatcoats over a military green armour

Really good quality video with the narration, audio, and info banners. The painting is also really clean. I like that you use a bunch of different techniques in the video, most channels just do one style like speed painting contrasts or pure zenithal airbrush etc. You'll be raking in the view in no time. Keep up the great work! I'd love to see non traditional votann schemes if you ever get a chance. I feel like we have a bunch of faction specific videos on the web but not a lot of custom tutorials to showcase different styles.

Feedback helps a ton too so thats a huge help :) As for diff schemes, i do eventually want to make some custom dwarves once i finally have a 2k points army list together (Votann points costs are lowwww) I just finished the fallout show and one of the theories behind the enclave was they were using the vaults to test out how generation ships would work so they could start again on a planet elsewhere (i believe this was from fallout 2 and is since not the case) So i want to do a force or maybe just a kill team of some Vault Tec votann

Primers have a different chemical composition that normal paints. They are supposedly designed to 'grip' or adhere to the surface better, but the different formula doesn't make it ideal for a standard layer paint. So we have different paints rather than a jack of all trades.

yes it will. The most recent paint I bought from GW was used to paint 1 model. Sat on my shelf for about a year to two year and its completely dried out. I tried stiring it with a cocktail stick but it's just a solid mass. GW paint pots are the worst. Only reason I bought it was to match my friends army colour for a painted model for his birthday. I won't ever make that mistake again. Saying all that, I still have 1 GW paint pot from the 90s that is still kicking. I think I bought it in 1995. It's one of the original round tall pots that seal like an absolute mofo. Every time you open one of those old pots they glue themselves shut again. So hard to open, but they never dry out.... until the lid finally breaks. Which is what happened to all the other old pots I've had.

A brand new pot of Citadel is certainly annoying to scoop paint from, but compare them when they're about two or more years old. It's not even a question that dropper bottles are preferable over the course of the life of the paint.

@@radshoesbro Or just take care of them properly. I know there's plenty of people out there with 20 and 30 year old citadel paints in use, but don't see people with other brands more than a couple years old.

@@afk1sec410 Maybe because AK Interactive, Army Painter or Scale 75 aren't 20 and 30 years old companies, eh? Old Citadel pots were superior, they could hold paint fresh for years. Modern pots are ultimate failure and are objectively inferior to bottles used by any other company. Just take care of them properly and use a needle.

Matt black and matt white are the names for the black and white. Seems that used to be very mat but due to reformulation they are more glossy. When you varnish it with satin varnish, the effect vanishes. Atleast for the old range. Citadel paints aren't bad but their pot design is just horrendous. I have so many citadel paints that I only used once or twice that are unuseable, money that is wasted. :( I still had very old, old paints from the army painter (10+ years) and some still worked.

Good comparison over-all. Hard to do a perfect one when AP Fanatic has 30 greens (counting teals) in five sets / triads. I am going to compare AP Fanatic with Vallejo starting next week. Chose to start with a pair of triads that I use a lot and have seen other use. AP even did a DA Redemptor so that made my choices a lot simpler as a Dark Angels player :) Hope it delivers on the promises because it would be so nice with reliable triads when you layer miniatures but the metals... yeah, those interest me a log, especially "Cobalt Metal" and "Rough Iron". The "matt black" looks like a "satin black" to me on camera. It hit me some time later that it could be a bad case of paint and medium separation. I would give it a long and strong shake before I try using that one again. I had this issue with a Vallejo Black in the past, could be the same issue.... because it is strange if that is supposed to be matt.

I did the same, had some tau in 8th as i got back into the hobby and stated space wolves with the start of 9th. by the time i painted up the marines in the 9th ed launch box 10th was being announced lol

I think old. Pot has 2022 on it and it came in the imperium magazine which also came with the old nuiln oil but I'm not sure as I didn't know balor got a remix
