Well done, interesting video. Thank you all your work during 2021. My choice for moment of the year would be watching international women's rugby on BBC 2 TV a massive step forward. Whilst one cannot take away the terrific season (in fact several seasons) Zoe Aldcroft has had, Zoe Harrison has, at long last, reproduced her Sarries' form with the Red Roses and has been outstanding. She would be my player of the season.

“Women’s rugby deserves better” what a ridiculous statement. This channels work on KZbin and other socials is at the forefront of the women’s game in this country. The women themselves really appreciate Sam’s work, and it’s exactly what the game needs.

@@Iamthemadmidget All I know is that when I go to watch the matches nobody has either heard or watches this podcast. 6 hours in and 32 views. I’m sure Sam is doing all he can so please don’t make it personal, I love Women’s Rugby just as much as you do mate but I have the right to my opinion. Maybe linking this podcast to others? What a choice Simon Middleton has for Number 10 - Meg Jones, Helena Rowland and Emily Scott. All three are such terrific players. I think that we shall see Beth Blacklock blossom into a top class centre.
@TheWomensRugbyShow2 жыл бұрын
Who would you pick at 10 for the Autumn tests? Massively agreed on Beth Blacklock - think she will be a Red Rose soon
@stevemathews95352 жыл бұрын
@@TheWomensRugbyShow For me it's Helena Rowland, she seems to just edge it in all departments - strength, trickiness, that huge boot and maybe even speed but it is a damn close thing. I think that Emily Scott is so consistent and versatile. I haven't mentioned Zoe Harrison who plays so well for Sarries but playing her at centre for the Red Roses did her no favours and we haven't seen her perform well when she has played at 10 for England. .

The big problem, for me, is that we have 3 teams of professionals: England, France & NZ playing against teams of amateurs. And when conditioned professional athletes play against people playing for a hobby, then the mismatch is more than just the score. The physical mismatch is how players get hurt seriously. The rest of the tier 1 nations need to go pro.
@mikado62012 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Sam, it's always good to put ideas out there for discussion. It looks like you're thinking of a 6 week tour with club games, along the lines of the men's Lions. Is this practical? It might be tough for amateur players and it's a little difficult to see the club games generating enough money to justify themselves. An alternative would be Test matches only, but starting with one or two against European opposition before the main tour. If touring NZ it would be a shame not to get in a match vs Australia too, or an Oceanic Barbarians. (As an aside, do Glendale still have an elite women's team? I thought I saw something about them being axed.)
@lukestaples-preston2 жыл бұрын
If they were to copy the Men's format, France would have to be a destination with Italy/Spain getting games. From the outside, it seems like the Ire/Wal/Scot unions don't even properly fund their female pathway/squads so don't see why they should benefit financially from such a tour. Especially when Italy and potentially Spain (if they weren't thrown out of the 6n) would be just as deserving. Why cant the women's game create their own unique tour/series? SH vs NH, Rest of the world vs the world cup winners . England or France vs Rest of Europe.
@michaelmikeykellymikeydama54052 жыл бұрын
Although I would like to see a women's Lions team, it would be more pointless than beneficial in my opinion. If there was to be a women's Lions team, then by logic you would call them the Lionesses just for starters. While development of opposition would benefit, the purpose of the Lions is to tour and beat the very best. As England are the very best at the moment, winning tests on tour won't be too difficult compared to their male counterparts. If they go to the US and Canada, it would do well in promoting the women's game in the Americas, but I would expect the Lionesses to win every game without issue. Their only potential to lose a game would come from New Zealand; however as England would likely beat New Zealand on their own right now, this Lionesses team would more likely prevail, therefore they would win the series pretty much every time. Now as the home nations are often even in the men's game, the Lions would also be even amongst the nations. However, as England are way ahead of the others in the women's game, 12 or 13 out of the 15 test starters would be English. Another positive I believe that could come out is the attention of the Lionesses team giving the home union more attention, improving them to a standard more challenging to England, so the team can be more even as time goes by. Anyway if there was to be a Lionesses team right now, being most harsh on England as possible I think it should line-up like this: 15. Rollie 14. Joyce 13. Scarratt 12. Nelson 11. Breach 10. Snowsill 9. Riley 8. Hunter 7. Packer 6. Griffin 5. Aldcroft 4. Ward 3. Bern 2. Moloney 1. Cornborough 16. Cokayne 17. Botterman 18. Djougang 19. Wassell 20. Malcolm 21. Hunt 22. Rowland 23. Parsons
@TheWomensRugbyShow2 жыл бұрын
I think the Lionesses could actually be really marketable, it works well with the England women’s football team. I do understand what you mean about them winning every game but I think in terms of growth of the game it would still be a impressive tour. Moving onto your team in part two we actually have our Lionesses squad and we have very similar players in it so I’m intrigued to see how you feel about our choices. Thanks a lot for giving your thoughts - really appreciate it!
