@mikedoesitall6310 Жыл бұрын
It's been there for over a year, I believe. It had more fanfare when it first opened, but these days the quality of food has gone down at most of the stalls. There are still some decent ones though. Worth checking out if you haven't been. Small food court so it wouldn't take long.

I'm curious as to what you do if anything to maintain bed adhesion. Even on a textured PEI sheet I usually have to use a brim to prevent warping.
@mikedoesitall6310 Жыл бұрын
I haven't needed to use any type of extra adhesive. The pei in this video is a honeybadger pei from fabreeko. I give it a good wash with plain dawn dish soap and a scrub pad like a dobie and dry. Make sure to never touch the pei with your fingers. IPA between prints and wash with dawn every now and then to refresh the pei. Having an enclosure helps a lot too. On my prusa I always needed adhesive help but haven't needed it on my voron.
@edwardmcrichy2985 Жыл бұрын
@@mikedoesitall6310 thanks for the response. For the most part everything sticks to my pei but I find if i don't use a brim I'll get one corner to warp, even the brim warps. I'll take your advise.

My neighbour living next door in my HDB flat was the original owner of White Restaurant in Sembawang. He passed the business on to his children. From its humble beginning opposite SSC, it has expanded all the way to New York. I am quite happy to see a noodle dish created by him and eaten by myself since younger days being shared to the world. Thanks mike for sharing. Glad to see the food court bustling now. As a Singaporean I absolutely wish I could be there to try even though it's pricey, it's a totally different experience to dine with others behind those revolving doors, which is definitely not something you find in a typical hawker centre in Singapore! lol

@@mikedoesitall6310 Cast, crew and your everyday locals? In Singapore, the benchmark used to be 5 years for a food and beverage outlet to be successful. How about New York? The major concern is more about infighting and corruption.

Here in NYC if a restaurant can last 1 year it's doing pretty good. 2 years and it'll probably be ok. Most close after 1 year if they aren't making any money because rent is too high to keep going with no customers.

It is reasonable but I think the reason is because they are using frozen product and not fresh, live crab or lobster. I did not see any aquarium tanks with live seafood in it. I will confirm the next time I go over there but that is what makes sense to me.

$17/$19 for hawker chicken-rice????? LOL. Even if it tastes as good as the real thing in SG (probably not) , the pricing completely betrays the whole point of amazing hawker culture.
@joanneng91452 жыл бұрын
They have no choice but to price highly, not sure how competitive the pricing is but according to OP, this location is somewhat upscale, so a higher price is ok. Not to forget the cost of importing local ingredients from Singapore/elsewhere. Seetoh's curated list of hawkers will definitely be worthy to go, therefore justified in the pricing.

As I said in the description, this video was taken around 7:30PM Eastern Time USA. It has been 10 days since the soft open at the time of the first video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2ileYije95nsK8). At least 3 of the stalls were SOLD OUT of food and Hainan Jones sold out just as I was getting in line. Wok & Staple's Chili Crab/Lobster looked pretty good from what I could see. PRICING & MENUS: I tried to get as record as much as I could. Of note, Smokin Joe's prices are $16 for every platter. Because of the crowd and dim lighting, it was difficult to film some of the pricing and menus. Please refer to my other video, which has much clearer menu and pricing. Thanks for watching and please ask if you have questions!

This is not "hawker center" but more like Food court. And half the foods are not even "Singaporean". But i give the operators credits for contributing to NYC foods scene with more varieties and diversities.
