It is equally wrong to discuss this issue in this forum when Lataji's 88th birthday is being celebrated and she is being conferred with Swara-Mauli award!!! While Lataji was at the top other singers too were getting opportunities to sing, because it is humanly impossible for Lataji to sing all songs being composed throughout India! Today we have websites for many singers giving the details of their songs, achievements and awards! There are huge fan bases of Suman Kalyanpur, Asha Bhosle, Vani Jairam, S Janaki, P Susheela, Shamshad Begum and so on! Lataji coexisted peacefully with Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sadhana Sargam and Anuradha Paudwal, who was happy imitating Lataji! Lataji didn't stop them from singing! Did she? Suman Kalyanpur has recorded the best songs notwithstanding the charges of Mangeshkar monopoly! She recorded the best duets with Rafiji during the period when Lataji and Rafiji had stopped singing together due to their differences on royalty issue! There were no takers for Vani Jairam's nasal and girlish voice, so she went southwards, where she faced stiff competition from P Susheela and S Janaki, who were already ruling the southern film industry! No female singer replaced Lataji! But, after Aaradhana's stupendous success Kishoreda virtually ruled Bollywood, replacing all major male singers! Today we see many struggling as well as established female singers sing Lataji's legendary songs! Only Lataji has received this honour! Lataji is the greatest ever singer, the nightingale of India and a real Bharata Ratna!!! The most successful person has always enemies, which is univerally known! The very fact that starting from Gulam Hyder, Khemchand Prakash, Anil Vishwas to Mayuresh Pai, who recorded Lataji's Annammayya kritis in 2015, all MDs wanted Lataji to sing for them! They choosing her over others is not her fault! However, notwithstanding the charges levelled at her, she is globally popular for her inimitable repertoire! The very fact that young or established singers want to sing her songs "like her" speaks volumes about her credibility!!! Recently Sumanji started yet another controversy by saying that Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon.....was snatched from her, more than fifty years after Lataji sang it before our first PM! Most of us knew that MD CR wanted Ashaji to sing it whereas Kavi Pradeep wanted Lataji to sing it! Suman was nowhere in the picture! So how come she didn't discuss this issue when CR and Kavi Pradeep were alive? Lataji has more songs to her credit and Sumanji has more sympathisers to her credit!
