You do know you can eat the stems right? They are native to Chile and here we eat them all the time just make sure you take the newer stems because the big ones are quite bitter and tough :) The way to eat them is peel the prickly skin and you can eat them raw as a salad!

There’s a tiny little park in the Northern Lake District, can’t remember the town, but just a stream that feeds a pond and these monsters. There is signs everywhere about not touching the plants, likely to prevent people from taking cuttings or damaging the plant in any way, and it looks as if it is contained to a certain square footage likely for the reason this man stated about not letting it spread due to the legal side. Still, it’s a magical little patch of exotic nature in the heart of the north
