Hi. Thank you very much for this video. Such a good angle of view to see all the band members. Do you have more, maybe from other shows too?

I’m curious, do you know what the synchronized dance is that many of the people seem to be doing around the 6:00 minute mark? Is it the Hokey Pokey? I didn’t know there were synchronized dances back then, I thought they started more in the 80’s.

HI again, after extensive research,I found out that the XVII's were actually only made until 1918.My machine is # 19141 and on the Data Victrola page ..it verifies that both You're and Mine were made on 1918.I think the mess up on the date is that they were not a good seller because of the high price...and the remainders that didn't sell..were sold up to 1921..also some of these later machines that were unsold were done up in the Rare Black Laquar and fancy painting and sold for more.I have verified this with quite a few people and my machine even has a mint paper label inside and is dated April 15th 1918...🙂 Just thought I would pass this info on to you, sincerely,Steve.

According to the Edison log of Matrix numbers made on the 125' horn published in Ray Wiles' book this was recorded but never released for sale. Some others were released.

I knew of the few that were released but surmised, though not confirmed, that this was in fact part of the 125 horn recording session due to the research I posted above. Thank you!

Beautiful restoration. I have the same model which my grandfather purchased in 1920’s. My family has always loved this Victrola which still works well. It is amazing how clearly it reproduces. The only thing that it has ever needed is re-lubrication of the springs as called for by the original instruction manual which we also have.

Thank you. That is awesome to have it stay in your family AND be original. I wish I could say I had a family heirloom such as this, but my grandparents could not afford such a luxury in their day.

DGPros Thank you for your reply and I certainly appreciated your video. I also have a collection of National Geographic Magazines. You would be interested to know that in the November 1919 issue is a full page ad for the Victrola XVII. It originally sold for $300, and $365 for the electric version. My grandfather was successful as a farmer, and along with the Victrola, I have many of his records. Also, his father made investments and I have his receipts from 1879-1900. That is probably why I am blessed to have the Victrola which was always valued and taken care of by my mother until she passed it on to me.

@@willardtaylor6249 Wow that is truly amazing. I hope your children will take care of it, and pass it along. It's a great way to share a part of your family history. I have the September 1916 magazine which has a giant phonograph on the cover. It is a great read and lets me travel back, for not only Victrola ads and articles, but ads to build your home for $727 which buys all the material. I'll have to see if I can find the Nat Geo you are talking about. Be safe and take care.

DGPros Like yourself, I have always had a love for things from the past; and as a result I have collected many things. I also have a 1902 Columbia Type Q cylinder graphophone which works, a TokFone phonograph which was given to mother in 1939 as a going away to school present, plus a 1925 Atwater Kent Model 20C radio which I have had working since the 1980’s. My mother, who was born in 1921 saved many things from her childhood along with things from her parents. I have added the Geographics, going back as far as 1908, and quite a number of books from the 1800’s and a few from before. I have enjoyed the privilege of being able to look back at the past. Incidentally, the serial number of the Victrola XVII is 3173, which I understand dates it to 1916. Stay safe and may God bless.

DGPros In looking over my collect ion of National Geographics, I see that quite a number of issues advertised the Model XVII Victrola. Starting in 1917, I see full page ads for the Victor Company in almost every issue of the Geographic during that era. The ads were always located on the first ad page after the articles. At times the records and their artists were featured. At other times, a Victrola was advertised and it was almost always the Model XVII. This tells me that the Victor Company must have taken particular pride in the Model XVII. You can find beautiful ads, specifically for the Model XVII in the following Nat. Geographic issues: 1917; May; June; October; November-December ( 1 combined issue). 1918; April; October; December. 1919; July and November. July 1919 shows a couple dancing in front of a Model XVII. May 1919 shows the top of Model XVII. November 1918 and January and March 1919 show people seated listening to music from an unidentified but clearly a Model XVII Victrola. The National Geographic is highly collectible so these issues show up online or sometimes in stores that sell old books.

Nice job on the rebuild, i have the same model also in walnut a 1918. The tag inside mine doesn't say walnut, does yours? I have seen where they put american or circassian on the inside paper label. I will be stripping and refinishing mine with some veneer replacement or repair on the front doors. I am in the middle of rebuilding a mahogany 17 then will start on the walnut. I have another mahogany 17 to do after the walnut one. I sell restored victrolas. I don't do the restores like you did as i normally don't sell to collectors. .
