My left eye is a -5 and my right eye is Plano thanks to a botched cataract surgery miscalculation of the new lens. If I wear glasses I vomit in less than 10 minutes. I am contact lens intolerant and I'll get pink eye in 2 days or less. I have to lay down horizontal every 2 hours it seems or less or I will throw up. So my day is cut in half with maybe 6 hours of life. My left eye is now turning in towards my nose and I've seen it this way in a selfie.

Question. What do you think about patching in terms of a treatment of a functional scotoma? I've got exotropia, functional scotoma and ARC. Since 14yo most of the time I force my eyes to look straight which comes with much discomfort and results into my eyes are deviated inwards when I "control" them. My doctor said that since I have such habit and also my brain suppresses one eye, first of all I need to forget this "wrong vision" so we can work with two eyes to develop binocular vision. I wear patch one day on left eye, one day on right eye. 100% of a time except time I exercise on a synoptophore. Unfortunately, strabismus was never treated before in my life. It initially appeared when I was 6, now I'm 23. Thank you in advance for your answer!

Should I be worried if I feel an insignificant difference in vision between one eye and the other? I recently noticed that my left eye sees very, very slightly better than my right eye, I can't tell if it's something I've had for years and just noticed or if it started recently.

Look into some medication for light sensitivity to fluorescent lighting too. My doc prescribed nortriptyline and it has made me feel 80% more resistant to light again so I feel more normal and wearing the contacts on top…should be even better. I have the same problem with fluorescent lights.

@@gabrieldonadze7100 Patching rarely works, although many doctors still prescribe it. It assumes that the problem is in one eye. It is not. Amblyopia and Strabismus are ALWAYS a problem in the two sides notworking together. That's why patching rarely works.

hey doc, I had a brain tumour back in 2015 and I eventually became visually impaired not seeing a lot through my right eye, since I had damaged optic nerves.. Recently my right eye has started drifting, and ive been told that it's because I haven't been using it a lot. I can see through my right eye but not a lot - do you think wearing a patch in house is worth it?

If you are seeing double, and find that disturbing, and you don't have access to a Behavioral Optometrist, then yes, patch one eye.

The intent is to give hope to those that have amblyopia and have been told that patching works, when in fact it doesn't. Vision Therapy builds those neural connections to enable individuals to use their eyes together as a team.
