Lovely video! Here in South Africa those neon bees certainly spend a lot of time on flowers. I've been calling them cloak and dagger bees but they look similar and are also brood parasites. I think we should be careful of trying to justify anythings existence in terms of some kind of service they provide. They are simply marvellous creatures, part of an indescribably complex wonderful system of which we are also a part. They are. They don't need our permission to exist.

In Ontario, we also have a small carpenter bee species. The males have a distinctive mask marking on their faces.

We have them! They love unpainted wood! Before our wood fence was painted (left to cure the wood) these big bees chewed many holes in the wood! Now that it is painted they leave the fence alone. Not much you can do to make them go away, we have many flowers for the honey bees. We need Bees for our garden. Did not see many other Bees but the Carpenter Bees last year, Do the Carpenter Bees keep other Bees away? I would rather have Honey Bees. We have lots of Clover! So will we just have to live with them. Never been bites or stung, neither have my dogs or the stray cats.

Hi! As far as I know, Carpenter bees don't keep other bees away. But they are much bigger than for example the mason or honey bees. Where do you live? Have a great day and hope you get your honey bees this year! Thanks for taking an interest in the channel. Bee Happy

Please dont use bamboo canes for the nest tubes as you cannot clean them out each Autumn. And really they do need inspecting and cleaning of parasites and muck.

I had about 5 or 6 on me at the river the other day at one time. I just sat there and watched them. If you're careful not to stress them out, they won't sting. They are just trying to survive and our skin provides them with electrolytes and moisture.

Bees are The Best. Amazing little creatures who could teach us humans so much before we destroy them. We humans are the destructors of our own planet and livelihood. Shame on us, especially those of us who think it's ok to carry on breeding.😣😣😣
