Thank you, Ellen. Wonderful to find out how you can sell the same piece of work over and over. You are a very pretty, talented and smart business women. You are doing a great job with your KZbin channel. Most of us artist don't have the ability to speak like you do in front of a camera. Find a reason to look to your left to let us see your pretty hair. Haha

I don't throw them away when the pigment settles at the bottom; just shake a lot. But the hand shaking does take a long time and is pretty tedious, so this video about the vortex shaker is quite handy. Thanks!

If an artist makes a commissioned painting from a client’s photograph, the artist does not have the right to sell prints of that painting without permission of the actual photographer and I would get that permission in writing. The photograph is a work of art in and of itself and making a painting of it does not invalidate the rights of the photographer. Just like a photographer can’t sell prints of a photo they took of someone’s painting without the artist’s permission, artists can’t copy a photograph and sell prints of it without the photographer’s permission.

Can u use alcohol with acrilic inks on watercolor paper?
@EllenBrennemanStudio
@EllenBrennemanStudio 2 ай бұрын
Hi, Kathy! Using alcohol by itself with watercolors on watercolor paper can create some beautiful effects. Acrylic ink and alcohol on watercolor paper likely won't do much because the pigment is so easily to stain the paper. Perhaps if you REALLY watered it down you might? I've never actually tried it before. If you do, let me know how it goes!

I have had my art stolen multiple times and I've had my art vandalized multiple times. I totally know how you feel! People just don't get it. I've been an artist for 30+ years and honestly, I've gotten to the point where I ignore people who make stupid comments. They are trying to help, but they have no idea what they're saying. As far as the commission for a print, I've also had people ask me for that. I just don't do commissions, period. It's not worth it. It's stressful and I hate being told what to create. One of the things I've been told multiple times that really gets me is when people tell me, "It must be nice to be an artist and just paint all day." Um, no, this is a business! I spend 50-80% of my time on business tasks. I WISH I painted all day! Thank you for this video. It is helpful to know I'm not the only one!

How do you seal the Yupo paper? I tried alcohol inks on some and the results were beautiful but weeks later when I went to put it in a frame the ink was still tacky and came right off the Yupo.
@EllenBrennemanStudio
@EllenBrennemanStudio 3 ай бұрын
I mostly use acrylic inks. Those do not need to be sealed because the inks fuse to the paper. For anything with alcohol inks I use Krylon matte finish (though it does leave a bit of a 'dust-like' residue but doesn't affect the look of the artwork)

I really appreciate your advice and encouragement, as a beginner I feel like I'll never get better, I don't ever see improvement , it's so frustrating. So it really helps how you explained 😀what the process of improvement timewise. It helps to be more realistic for me. Thank you, it is very useful for my development as an oil painter. Thank you.

I just discovered your channel, and I’m so glad I found it! I used to do local art fairs, and boy do I have stories. When I was more inexperienced at doing art fairs, I didn’t bring anything to weigh down my tent. Guess what, we had a particularly windy day and I was literally hanging on my tent to try to keep it from turning into a kite. I learned quickly the importance of bringing weights for your tent. There was another year when we got a lot of rain and the wind blew some of my merchandise off the table and into a puddle🤦🏻‍♀️ Not to mention the days when it was, like, 100+ degrees Fahrenheit in my tent and everyone who came in complained about how hot it was then immediately left. I know people who have done really well at art fairs, but I stopped doing them because it just wasn’t worth it for me. People would come in, look around for a few seconds, then leave. I tried offering different price points but still didn’t do very well. It was very discouraging and frustrating. I blame my lack of success partly on the fact that I’m an introvert with “resting b*tch face” who isn’t a good salesperson. I often wished I could hire an extrovert who’s really good at sales to help me out.

This is so sad! You really were diligent about tracking the music cd infringement issue down. I admire you perseverance and tenacity to look the person up and the platforms that sold the music, finding and filling out the form. I am glad you had success with that particular issue. Great information! You presented it very well. I know this video is several years old. I thank you for posting it and all you do for the art community! :)

you are most welcome, I'm so glad you found this video helpful! It IS scary to sell online sometimes, but I've come to learn that at the end of the day, no one should dictate where we sell our work. There will always be a negative aspect to selling anywhere and nothing is perfect, lol!

Copyright answer; You can ask them there names, were they live, send a bill. Otherwise there is Pictoright. This is a worldwide organisation they do this for you. There income is, I thought 25%, what they get from what they do for you. That is a possibility. In our country I know an artist, she asked all copy paintings back and burn them. Also with the newspaper to know this. When she Camry back from holiday, she saw a shop for furniture, they sold printed (China) copies from her work. She did this ask all paintings and burn them.

I think you mean "Square inches" which means you get paid for the whole canvas, not just the edges. SO a 5 x 5" canvas is 5 X 5"= 25. Which prices out at $250. Hope that helps.

I was hurtful to an art theif. Kept on commenting that a liar, a theif and a fraud. Not just on the post she stole from me, but the other 5 she stole from different artists on instagram. I got my supporters to bash her too. I said she wasn’t going to get away with it. I was so harsh they deleted all their posts.

Do you think that the buyer of the original piece of art feels like you have the devalued their piece of art by having prints made of the same piece?
@EllenBrennemanStudio
@EllenBrennemanStudio 8 ай бұрын
When I had a customer interested in an original painting, I would make a point to let them know that I retained all rights to the image, and that I had the option to create prints if I chose to do so. This way the buyer is aware before making the purchase. Personally, speaking, I’ve never had anyone not purchase one of my paintings for fear that I would create prints. I appreciate your question!
