Useful video, especially as I am about to service my 1050 brakes. I'm a fair weather rider and so don't have your corrosion issues to the same extent, however a couple of pointers. . . Having checked the manual, there is no mention of how to separate the two caliper halves to lubricate the slider upon which they move and I suspect this is sealed for life, however, if this is seized, it will quite likely result in your brakes sticking on. When I remove my caliper, I intend to check that both halves of the caliper can be moved towards and away from each other freely and if not, investigate further if the pin/slider can be lubed. The second point - 3 in one oil, copper slip and I suspect wd40 are mineral based oils and they will cause your piston seals to swell if you get it anywhere near your brake pistons and then you will be in big trouble, the only remedy will be new caliper seals. For the piston face you need a silicone or red rubber grease. Thanks for the clip - I will definitely pay more attention to mine from now on!!

How many miles did you get out of them?

+Emile Unverzagt Solid 7000 which is excellent really. Tend to be fairly easy on them though, no lock ups or too crazy acceleration!

Emile Unverzagt I have a Fazer 1000 now which I've had the Pilot 3 put on. I had the Pilot 2 on a Blackbird but the BT023 was a lot better, especially in the wet. The pilot 3 are also an exceptional tyre though.

In the market for some heated gloves, wondered how these faired longevity wise ie are you still using them etc?

+Tony Kitchen I have found them very long lived. The gloves themselves are leather the only criticism I can level at them is they get heavy when in long periods of rain. A good wax/leather treatment should sort that out. For the price (similar to a decent set of race gloves) you can't go wrong. They aren't too thick either so I found I wore them for most of the year (but didn't have them plugged in. Hope that helps!

I almost bought a pair but went for the oxford heated grips in the end, but might go for a pair some time in the future :-P

Deffo found them better than grips. I used to end up with hot palms with the grips but freezing fingers as commuting mean you are always braking/using the clutch and your fingers get no heat. Plus, they heat up the bit of your hand that actually has the wind blast at it. Living in Scotland, I've tried most things to keep warm!

BikeFanUK I would definitely buy some if I lived in Scotland ha ha, just had a look around a J&S store and seen that oxford do hot gloves now, I am about to go on you tube see if I can get a bit of info on how good they are.

Well I've only 140bhp on the older 'Blade but has stuck well so far, as I said, very confidence inspiring. Good luck. Let me know how you get on!

The front still has plenty, only have about 6000 miles on it! obviously the rear did not make that far lol. I also ride till it snows here so i need a tire suitable in a lot of condition but i don't really wan to sacrifice too much traction. I've always wanted to mix a front sport with a rear sport touring just to balance the wear...only problem is that i have a zx-10r and at higher revs i just hope it sticks!!

Are you replacing the S20 on the front? I'm over a thousand miles in now (I commute 60 miles a day on the bike) and so far, great performance. Of course some tyres suit different bikes better but for me, it has been a great match up. The thing for me is the 023 seems to warm up as quick as the S20 which is grand.

Just a quick addition - the Hyundai parked in front is back today. The rear looks sooty but is remarkably unmelted. Just shows how intense, but focused, fire can be.

End of last year at The Dunhill Links, St Andrews Old Course, Fife. He was playing in the Pro Am competition. I had to wait for it to appear in the media before I could upload it here though. He was very friendly, we didn't expect him to say yes to the interview request but he was happy to help.

It's amazing they can spend so much on R&D, produce a bike like this but fail to spot such an obvious flaw in the caliper design. Let me know how you get on with the guard fitting!

Basically economics. Loads shut early to mid-1980's. Big strike and lots of unrest. Essentially, the world got smaller. It was cheaper to import coal from surface mines round the world than keep these dangerous old deep mines open.
