Just got my Hunting License and FID Card this summer. Turned 21 yesterday and got these calls. Can’t wait to put them to the test.

Relatively new to turkey hunting. I read you should call every 15 mins. But can’t find the answer to - For how long do you call when you do call? Assuming no birds in sight….
@HuntQuestwithScottEllis9 ай бұрын
That is about right. Maybe a couple of clucks and some plain yelping. Depending on how pressured the land is what dictates louder aggressive vs. softer stuff.

Fighting purrs can work when nothing else will move them. I called in 3 longbeards for a friend once doing pretty much the same thing, except I was just beating my ball cap against my leg and the ground since I didn't have any wings with me. Good to have in your bag of tricks when dealing with a couple of older birds, hens don't interest them but fighting does some times.

This is the best instructional video I've seen. I found it thanks to your fans. Every other video i watched said to blow/huff air over the mouthpiece, but i was never able to. I thought i was doing it wrong

@@HuntQuestwithScottEllis Kasey and I had the pleasure of calling in Sawyer first 🦃. It was a Jake but at 6 years old and with the 410 I bought for him it was great. He got to listen to the gobbler hammer coming but he hung up out of his range and I told Kasey to let him shoot the Jake that came in to 30 yards. Made my season

That is awesome! Kasey text me pics. Super happy for y'all. My first was a jake. Not a thing wrong with that! Congratulations Sawyer!

Fun to watch. That young man will make it work someday. This was a good experience...a learning process necessary for his love of the sport. Now, he will have a memory to draw from and one day he will feel the weight of a dangling gobbler. Thanks for taking him and best wishes this spring.

"I'm getting old," is premature...from a seventy-three year old who still climbs the mountains. I enjoyed the hunt. Tell Steve Stoltz Roger Hook said hello and ask him if he knows anyone who enjoys the turkey game more than I. I enjoy watching hunts with great calling so I really enjoyed your excellent sound.

That was so cool! I could tell when he gobbled on his own he was convinced. Your calling has always impressed me, and apparently it impressed that gobbler as well. It was good to finally meet up with you at the Nashville NWTF convention. Thanks for all of your instructional videos, and for sharing this great hunt. Congratulations! That's the kind of hunt that stays with you forever.

I so want to be able to add the diaphragm to my arsenal, but I just can't get past my fear of somehow choking on the thing. I'm sure that sounds ridiculous, but as a young boy, my brother nearly choked to death while we were having dinner. He turned more colors than a strutting Tom. Scared me to death. Here I am 40 years later, and I'm still haunted by it. I think I heard Cuz Strickland mention one time that he used to use dental floss by putting it through a section of the tape when he first started in order to not mistakenly swallow the call. I may give that a try. Thanks for the tutorial.
@HuntQuestwithScottEllis Жыл бұрын
That's a hard one buddy. I'm not sure how to get around that fear. You can use a tube call, but it's not hands free operation.
@fosko91 Жыл бұрын
@@HuntQuestwithScottEllis Thanks for the reply Scott. Just a little update. I actually took a small needle and some thread and ran the thread thru the front right corner of the tape. I then cut the thread to around 7 inches or so to have just to give me a little sense of assurance. This has actually allowed me within the last couple of days to get comfortable with it to the point I'm just tossing it in and getting proper seat placement of the call. So basically it has worked like a charm in getting past that anxiety that I had. I figure another week and I'll just remove the thread altogether. Thanks again for replying and best of luck to you.
