I have a question: have you been compared to autistic coded/headcanon or pruposely autistic fictional characters, and then, years later, after thorough investigation, realized you are or you might be autistic?

i was diagnosed at 15, im 17 now and my whole life i related specifically to autistic/autistic coded characters. part of my sessions with my sensory therapist before getting my autism screening was discussing my connection with fictional characters. :)

I don't really know... Like I relate a lot to those characters but I wasn't diagnosed with autism, I don't know if HQ (High QI) has same "mechanics" but that's what I'm diagnosed with since I'm 5 (i dont know if my sentence is really clear 😅)

The thing is, autistic coded characters are usually a better representation than characters written to be autistic.

Chloe Hayden (Quinni on Heartbreak High) is ACTUALLY autistic. So she's not an neurotypical actress playing an autistic character, she is an autistic actress playing an autistic character. Is that "coding"?
@r4tz4sn4ckz10 ай бұрын
That's why there's parentheses for 'coded' :3!!

@@r4tz4sn4ckz I understood "autism coding" to be where a character is written to be autistic without it ever being stated that the character is autistic, like Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory or Young Sheldon. He's got many many stereotypical autistic characteristics, but it is never explicitly stated that he is autistic and that's why it's considered an autistic coded character - vs. Quinni, who is an explicitly stated autistic character who is also played by an actually autistic actress.

@@MrsTips I might have gotten confused lol, but i think she was added in the vid bc she's an autistic character. Idk idk ^^'

the video is of both autistic characters and autistic coded characters, that’s why coded is in brackets, it doesn’t apply to everyone here

After season two I honestly can say Nikolai is one of the best characters in the show alongside the crows of course but in the shadow and bone universe I wanna see him end with Zoya I need their banter from the duology books 😂

I really appreciate that you included a range of characters that don’t all act the same way, but all are autistic coded (I don’t watch Shadow and Bone or Stranger Things, but your clips really show it). They show varying social abilities, eye contact, and insight, but all struggle one way or another with fitting in and functioning “like other people do.” I’m more like Anne Shirley, and always identified strongly with her, especially after my very late autism diagnosis. (Infodump incoming!) Interesting fact, I’ve read about the life of the author who created the character Anne, and she also sounds like she was undiagnosed autistic. As well as being very emotionally sensitive and passionate, and prone to righteous outbursts, both the author herself and Anne (in the later books in the series) would “take to their beds” for days or weeks after experiencing loss, barely talking or functioning, which sounds a lot like emotional overload and shutdown/burnout. It was so normal and real to the author, Lucy Maude Montgomery, that she wrote Anne doing it as an adult woman in her stories.

O my god, I just cried a little, I know all of that, watched the series twice with awe, and I never watch something twice, and it clicked : I just remembered that my teacher of second grade gifted me the books, and I never read them, I wonder if she knew
