Totally would have seen them ending together. Atom was just sooooo nice but Ryu had the history. From start to finish Atom was never scenaristically discarded and remained an option we as spectator can root for. Ryu and Atom start being jealous from one another but it is also clear that they respect each other. Until ep.10 we could not really see any threeway relationship working because clearly it would have been awkward for each boy to find its place in the life of the others but then when Grandma is sick and they start playing together it was like puzzle pieces coming together beautifully, supporting each other. They metaphorically find their places and Ryu and Atom start liking one another, from then on I thought, ah, maybe if the show is ballsy they will get there. At least this would have been a very interesting subject, polyamorous relationship. I am sure we will get plenty of fanfictions on them three, the development of their relationship was pure gold.
