this is "coming in, in the middle of a conversation, not enough to have any idea what they are talking about really. Well, a start maybe. Do we start with using the depth gauge on the boat to know how deep, then are we trying to suspend a live bait--or a fly just off the bottom? EIGHT pound test for small trout? We are used to fishing with four, maybe two--this is fly fishing?

Hi. Nice tyong. I have a question. On tbe video you talk about gills, i think they are called seteae, and those help the chironomid to hold on a rock. So from tbat perspective, the fly is being tied upsidown? I mean hook eye is on tbe tail sode of this chironomid?
@brokentippet9 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching! In lakes, the chironomids start off in the mud as bloodworms and mature into the pupa stage (which is what we are tying) they wiggle their way to the surface of the water to hatch. Their gills (or the head of the fly) lead the way during their ascent. So in this case, the bead is the head of the fly. Hope that helps explain it! Cheers

Love this fly-that orange bead head is a classic trout attractor. Only difference for me is to leave the marabou tail longer-you can then trim it shorter if you are getting too many tail nips 👍
@brokentippet11 ай бұрын
Good point, you can always remove length on the water, but you can't add! LOL. Sometimes I'll just switch to another fly, although beat up flies still catch fish

Pumpkin head is a fly I actually never touch...Am I missing out? What’s your go to method for fishing them? And when are you fishing them?
@brokentippet11 ай бұрын
It's a good little attractor fly to tie on. At the end of the day, it's just a woolly bugger variant. Cast & retrieve with a nice quick strip. (like you would with a leech). Or troll them around the lake with a cold beer in hand and take in the scenery. The trout will like it in the spring & fall!
@robertalp387811 ай бұрын
It’s a great pattern I use a lot in different styles. I’ve fished it rough on the surface, stripped back as soon as it hits the water, or at varying depths and speed of retrieve. Great in the colder months of the year for me 👍

If you add a tiny bit of zap a gap before you add your Holo you avoid the unraveling tendencies and the pressure from the holo sets the zap instantly.
@brokentippet11 ай бұрын
Thanks again Rick! Nice comment, I never thought to add it before apply the holo. Good tip, will give it a try next time -- FISH ON
@Rhsummers194111 ай бұрын
You should try using a thin UV cement for your first or second coat of hardener. The zap a gap doesn’t set properly or takes a long time to set without pressure contact whereas the UV sets up instantly allowing you to do your second security application immediately. My opinion only.
@brokentippet11 ай бұрын
Good tip Rick, appreciate that! Thanks for watching

Looks great but when you put on the crystal flash just fold the first piece back and you will not need the extra thread to tie in the second piece.
@brokentippet Жыл бұрын
It's funny that you caught that. I was wondering if anyone would! In the other leech tying video I folded the flashabou over, but for some reason I didn't do it to the Krystal flash in this video. I'm going to blame it on the fact I'm still working out the cobwebs from last year, haha. Thank you for watching Eric, glad you enjoyed. Cheers
