Good stuff bossman! I have 2 acers here myself and I'm gonna try make a bonsai from em, how do I know when the root bulb is big enough to pot into a smaller bonsai style pot?

What I usually do is get the larger , thicker rood and prune them back , dip the tips in rooting powder then check the thinner fibrous roots . Theses are the roots which absorb the nutrients , I'd give them a trim to force more of them to develop . Pop it back into well draining compost and let it grow this year while you look for a nice pot to put it into next spring . I'd love to see the trees you are working with 😊

@@bonsaiger4482 oh fantastic, I'll do just that so! It's hard to find a nice bonsai pot on our little island tbh..I'll be trying it with a Butterfly Maple and an atropurpureum, the second one is a nice green and red mix

The atropupureum might be your best bet , the butterfly one can be a bit unruly. How isolated is your island ?
