Excellent analysis - I saw many of the views it was about Sedgwick, but that is too simple. He is weaving in his personal frustrations and experiences that others share. So, people can see themselves in his words and think it is about whatever they want. Like he said in an interview, the word house is simple and we each see something different for house. He was able to create that feel with this song.

Tune down to 427hz and then capo at first fret Mostly doing just the bass note of the chord and for the D before the Em hitting the open string, every time I do this I put D in parentheses And for the C to D, climb up to the D from the C root note [Intro] G walk to Em? C D C D C D G [Verse 1] G ( D) Em You're the best thing I know C But late at night, I still question D All of my mistakes, mmm C D G Somethin’ in my head wants to reiterate, woah-oh-oh-oh [Chorus] G (D) Em So tell me what you're dreaming about C 'Cause I know that there’s things you can't quite D Tell me all of the time C D C Every time you leave, a little part of me dies C D Em But I want what I want (D) C D Yes, I want what I want Em And I want N.C. (get ready for different fingering) And I want (Ooh, ooh, ooh) [Instrumental break] Pluck this X X 3 X 1 3 [Verse 2] G ( D) Em I do the best I can, you know (D) C But lately, I am caught D Right inside of your line of fire C I'm not your hero D But I got his desire [Chorus] C D Em And I want what I want (D) C D Yes, I want what I want Em And I want (D) C D Yes, I want what I want [Instrumental break] Bb C F D/A or Dm? x4 G (D) Em [Outro] (D) C But latеly, I am caught D Right inside of your line of fire C I'm not your hеro D G But I got his desire G (D) Em (D) C D C D……

Fantastic I learned how to play this song on guitar in 1964 and have forgotten about it over the last many decades. Thanks for posting this. I will practice it and play it and enjoy it. I also remember around the same time seeing a full size poster cardboard cut out of Trini Lopez, holding his deluxe model guitar and fell in love with it. I finally found one in about 1995 in excellent condition and still own it. Do you think the pitch is slightly de-tuned, or the transferring onto tape was just slightly slower?❤
@learnasongwithjon19 күн бұрын
@martydibergi5228 that's awesome! That's an interesting question, wish I had the answer to that... technology was so different back then I think you could be onto something with the transferring process. But it's amazing to see the technology now to be able to identify that this song is sounding different and how we can match it.

Why would anybody want to hear me mimic Bob? It can’t be done. My goal is to grasp the structure of the song, it’s 3 or 4 “trademarks” like the D7/F# and the turnaround. But ‘mimic’? Why even try. Do the song justice but know it’s a reading thereof, not a mimicry.

You skip over the whole part of the man taking him on a quest. He say "are you looking for something that's easy to catch?" As if the journey or the finding is easy, but I think the man is talking about his own upcoming death. Almost like the man is telling the songwriter, what are you out here looking for, you already found Isis.
