I have one that has over 100k miles on it. I wish I could have another with zero miles to do it over again for the car is such a great vehicle and one that I will always remember. yes, the m156 was the first engine built from the very beginning by AMG. Yes, the head bolts are an issue on any year until late 2011 or the beginning of 2012. The tranny is a mct tranny with 7 gears. The car is a 6.2 and it made 518 hp in the SL

4 plus 3 Doug Nash weak transmission. I tracked the 86 Z51 in 1986. Car was outstanding in handling and torque for the time. Transmission was a disaster as no GM dealers knew how to rebuild the Doug Nash back then. Mine was at dealer for 5 months as they experimented with rebuilding the transmission. Not robust enough for road racing track use.

The MB manual gearboxes aren't really made for high torque. With AMG, they usually start with a big V8 and builds from there, so they are pretty much limited to the auto transmissions.

I owned a 2008 SLK, my biggest criticism of the car was it's poor build quality. The dashboard in particular has a very cheap feel to it. The new model introduced in 2012 has a much better cabin.

Love the car & color except for the tranny. I love my '99 996 6spd trans. However, I understand people that want an automatic. I'm 72 and still love that clutch..
