Feed them well, look after them, and show them who the boss is. A dog like this will follow you all day long.

German Pinschers actually do very well off leesh, just start training them at a young age and treat them well :)

Great breed I love her ,but yes high energy but amaizing ,we bike 2 times a day 45 minutes and 2 normal walks without leash

No ‘only’ about it. In a Min Pin you have the best dog of all. Nothing to touch them in my opinion.

Didier, we zijn bij de Banditsfarm geweest. We hadden er een goede indruk van, puppies worden er met veel liefde en zorg opgevoed. We stonden op een wachtlijst maar doordat het aantal puppies in de nest aan de lage kant was vielen we eraf. We hebben er dan één van Van De Ploenhoeve in Nederland. Eveneens een prachtige locatie met toegewijde en lieve mensen!

Idd toen ik bij banditsfarm ging in 2008 was de vraag al groter dan de twee nestjes die ze daar per jaar kweekten, ze doen het echt uit liefde voor het ras en niet voor het geld. In Nederland is de DP veel populairder dan hier merk ik.

I do not run or cycle with the dog everyday. Two times a week is enough. I walk with her everyday without leash even though that is not permitted. She will however harm no-one including animals and I trained her to come to me when I call her. This all seems to work out just fine, but I must admit this is a high energy breed and I think I have a high energy specimen ;-) It is a fantastic dog but she needs to be able to get rid of that energy. I took a "red" one because they look less aggressive. The black and tan ones look more dangerous certainly if you cut the ears and tail. Then they look like medium sized though supercharged Dobermanns, though this is just the look. I hope you make a good choice. If you decide to take a dog and raise it well it can be a wonderful companion.

You are right. You know there is a smaller breed that is related to the German Pinscher, i.e. the mini pinscher www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/dogs-101/videos/miniature-pinscher/ They have the same kind of energy and are great fun too. They are however a bit more difficult to raise as people tend to treat the as a lap dog which is a mistake. They are however more suitable for the city.

Also, I did not have any experience with dogs before but I watched some videos ans paid a lot of attention to Cesar Millan. I found out this took me a long way...

Its really amazing to watch though, the language is different but I can see the same sorts of commands and reaction from the dog. I'll have to get some video one of these days.

I take her for a spin about 2 times per week, depending on the weather. She can run for at least an hour but when we are in the fields and she spots game like rabbits she will go as fast as she can. I have clocked her once running 40Km/h which is about the top speed I can do with my mountain bike. However when "jogging" at 18-20 Km/h she can run for a very long time. And she does not even get tired. The only thing to wacht out for is the temperature. When above 20°C she will also sprint but she will overheat. It takes some getting used to but once you know what the dog can do it is a lot of fun. You should see the look on people's faces when you pass them at these kind of speeds ;-)

I assume the rabbits and other small games are to fast for her. x)

+Robert Lindin Hi Robert, it is a beautifal animal, it still is now it has grown up. Though it has much more energy than the average breed and it can outrun most larger breeds both in terms of speed and endurance. So it needs excercise. Also it is a very nervous breed. I have trained Senna to be able to run freely which is not obvious with a German Pincher. Other than that Senna is a bit protective of food and we sometimes have to remind her who is the boss. Other than that the German Pinscher makes a very good pet!

i've just reserved a boy pinscher and he's coming home next month. i wish to train him to be obedient and to be able to go with me to where ever a dog is allowed to go. Would you have any tips for training and such? Senna is a beautiful dog and admirably obedient already at 10 weeks!

Hi, good on you! A German Pinscher is a really fun dog, Senna attracts attention wherever I take her and she is loving every minute of it. She is friendly for people and other dogs. When I walk with her or go cycling I she is often off leash. A few tips: be very very strict during upbringing. The dog must be obedient from the start. When the dog does not respond you need to correct. Being strict is not the same as being harsh, not at all. You must understand dog psychology a little bit. A dog is either dominated or is dominant. If you allow the dog to make it's own choices it will do so and will understand that you are not the leader. Also, you must treat the dog like it's a much larger breed, like a shepherd. The dog must be on the ground, not on your arm and not in the sofa. This way the dog understands that it is lower in rank than the people in your family. Basically I would recommend to pay attention to Cesar Millan. I also watched the DVDs from Don Sullivan that give a good overview of how to raise a dog. I thought it was a very good except some of the elements were too harsh. I tried those as well but I found the dog got intimidated and did not respond well to this treatment. I quickly switched to a more gentle approach but I kept the good elements of this training. Good luck!
