Amazing how much the TTC was modeled after the NYC subway. Great trip and video. Thank you for posting.

The entire subway pattern among all Commonwealth countries was originally adopted from London which is a pioneer in the world of subways. There are other subway "schools" in the world. One of the most interesting ones is the Soviet where the stations were built as marble palaces. Also, they are buried much deeper in the ground. The deepest station in the world is Arsenalna in Kyiv, Ukraine.

@rideurbanrail All true. Though I think that the proximity and similar weather of NYC were big factors in the design of the 1st TTC line. Certainly, the subway cars today of each both look similar - like large breadboxes!

Forty years ago or so, I knew a CN Engineman. He related a storey from before the Main St overpass was built. He was on a run and hit a car at the then grade crossing. Basically clipped a bumper, as I recall. The driver was ok but clearly significantly beyond "three sheets to the wind". So he says to buddy (who honestly I can't remember his name), "Ya didn't have to swerve and hit me."

While this station is nice, classic, and clean, I've become jaded by the scale of the big European stations. I get the difference. As a kid, I was enamored by Grand Central in LA. I'm considering a Portland to Vancouver run soon.

Agree about Europe. My favourite terminal is in Madrid - the one with a beautiful garden inside.

Compared to lite rail in other countries, isn't LA transport more dangerois/crime ridden?....or is that just propaganda?
@rideurbanrail4 ай бұрын
It's not propaganda. It's not literally crime ridden but not safe either. Also, it depends on the location you're riding LA metro.
