could you do a guide in passenger/mail networks? rly wanna do a mail only run but cant seem to keep the money rolling on higher cost settings
@Will-dj7dl15 сағат бұрын
It would be cool to see a longer form video of a bigger openTTD game perhaps?? Although I appreciate it's a lot more effort
@waveofbabies300015 сағат бұрын
Yeah, got that in the pipe! Gonna be a week or two before I've got it ready to go, but it's on the way 😁

Why do you choose to connect a larger station to a smaller (local) station? Why not have one big station? Would it not benefit your network in the long run if trains could drive on to the satelite town?
@waveofbabies30009 күн бұрын
Mostly for architectural simplicity and separation of concerns. If we need more local transit, add more small trains. If we need more long distance, add more big trains. Plus the demand of the small towns for long distance is gonna be relatively variable across the set of them. By centralizing all of their demand into a common larger station, it makes it easier to ensure there are enough trains to meet demand.

As of OpenTTD 14.0, vehicles have an Unbunch order in a Depot stop, which works really well and makes Timetables obsolete; or, perhaps more fairly, Unbunch is way simpler than Timetables.

Nice, good to know!! I'll have a look around and try that.

I really love this style of play. It doesn't need to be completely optimized with massive interchanges and multi tracks everywhere. Fantastic video my guy 👍
@waveofbabies300014 күн бұрын
Thank you! I do love some OpenTTD coop style madness, but yea it's nice to build out stuff on a smaller & more organic basis once in a while. Got a bigger video along these lines that I'm in the final stages of editing 😁

Next one's gonna be longer and cover hooking this cluster of towns up to a few others! Should be a bit more meaty, then I got some ideas around stuff like an anthill (500+ 2-tile trains) in the desert and a few things I wanna play around with
@bfque813 күн бұрын
3:15 …speaking of scenic mountain tracks, I’d be interested in seeing your take on world generation and your preferred settings/biomes/so on! Rad video style you’ve got going on and looking forward to the next one!
@waveofbabies30008 күн бұрын
When I was younger, I tended to try to play in a more openttdcoop style - where the goal is to just make _massive_ complex maps with hundreds of trains running around. I think that's cool still (and have a video I'm working on where I do that), but I've started to like having more varied & topographically interesting maps. Desert & Temperate with a good amount of water and mountains are my favorite. How bout you? And thanks very much! That means a lot - it's fun to get back into making them!
@bfque86 күн бұрын
Very much the same! although it's more of an arctic/temperate skew, personally. Sorta the reason I asked - and maybe the better question was - what world gen settings did you use? Love me a map where the network has to follow the topography, but I've yet to find something that generates semi-reliably :?

With new asymmetric passenger destinations system, it's really fun when cities aren't big, it's so satisfying knowing people and mails do go to places they needed. It create sense of purpose of how routes are made. But in late of the game when it became all megalopolis, it became nightmare as all the routes are over-saturated and it's impossible to move all of people without having bottleneck red lines on the flow map.
@waveofbabies300018 күн бұрын
Yeah, I have had similar experiences - really satisfying early on when you can get _everyone_ where they need to go, then eventually the quantity becomes almost unmanageable! I really love cargodist either way, and wanna play around with some of the alternatives to it to see what they're like as well
@mesaber8620 күн бұрын
Im late to the party but there is no way this line will be fully saturated and all stations used, unless the station output is the limiter, and in that case you have an abundance of trains for what you need. 4 platforms even there is a stretch. 3 is optimal.
@waveofbabies300020 күн бұрын
Yeah, probably overkill! But overengineering is the spice of life 😍😍
