I love the wintry film from the BBC and the music that accompanies it. It's a slice of life that just takes me back to the late 80s, especially that really snowy January in the South East at the start of 87.

Geek point, the credits for Coast To Coast feature an Inter City 125. This never ran in Kent and would probably only be seen on Inter City services from Edinburgh to Poole, which was the Southampton side of the region. Also Coast To Coast was the name of a Friday night current affairs programme from this era on BBC North East, hosted by Eric Robson.

What a brilliant upload - it's wonderful to see these regional rarities in full. Such a pity all of ATV Today was wiped, apart from the filmed inserts
@EssexNonLeagueАй бұрын
Were they wiped, or were they never recorded? Most live programming up to the 80s at least wasn't recorded. Much of what you see from that time, including this episode of About Anglia, came from home recordings. Of course, quite a few film inserts from these periods will have survived.

Very enjoyable. Note the Debenhams and Woolworths stores in Luton. It brings back memories for me as I used to live in Luton and I remember that shopping centre being built and opening in stages between 1971 and 1977. I think it was the biggest one in the country at the time.

Thanks for posting - some interesting bits in that. A rare clip of Data Run, some regional ads on TV-am complete with a couple of PIFs, Granada's lovely Christmas animation and Jim Pope being his usual happy self referring to the miserable Manchester weather!!! The Toy & Hobby ad takes me back, and I guess it was obvious that if Stan Boardman was in an ad, there would have to be a mention of the Germans!!!!

A rare nice example of TV-am doing regional advertising right at the end of their slot here. And like in some other areas being unable to sell all the slots, so having to fill it with PIFs.
@KevHalАй бұрын
The region advertising is interesting, didn't know TV-am did it and thought it was just national. Guess playouts all came from Camden.
@mikeauld7971Ай бұрын
@ I don’t think it was in place from day 1 (original start date for TV-am was I think going to be April/May), but then BBC announced Breakfast Time as a spoiler. I certainly remember seeing local ads that summer in UTV land, but also seeing Scottish ones in UTV land around Easter or so. They were all gone the following year (1984) as TVam cut even more costs.
@mikeauld7971Ай бұрын
Anyway - seeing that regional break is as rare as hen’s teeth! DataRun being taken over by WAC by stealth here, in spite of all the see you next years!
@williamneale7238Ай бұрын
@@KevHal The old 456? website explained how the opt outs ran - large regions not aligned with the other franchises, and the ads were compiled during the day at Camden.

When I was a kid we had a caravan in North Norfolk. The aerial pointed at Belmont picking up Yorkshire TV. However whenever the weather got abnormally hot the signal from Belmont would become non existent, but with a retune we would get perfect Tyne Tees picture (from which transmitter I do not know)
@christopherhulse83852 ай бұрын
Possibly the Bilsdale transmitter as the channels were next to Belmont's.
