I think "Bad Love" has become my favorite song of the year, and it's not just because I am a Shawol. I mean I can't even think of a song that came out this year, or even in the last few years, that compares to how much I love everything about "Bad Love."

Part 4: As a member of SHINee, Key's amazing vocal range and dance skills shouldn't be surprising, that's just what the members of SHINee are known for. Not only is Key an amazing singer, but he is also one of SHINee's rappers. How often do you see a rapper with that type of vocal range? That's why SHINee are so highly respected in the industry because almost no one can do it the way SHINee does it. He is also a K-drama and movie actor, so he knows how to act. And, as a musical stage actor, he knows how to use his full vocal range, and he has no problem projecting his voice to the back of the theater. Plus, he is one of the most popular guests/cast members on variety shows, so he knows how to capture people's attention. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, everything SHINee does is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last -- including the members solo work -- so you will never hear the same style or sound from Key in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always be very Key-like. The industry looks to the members of SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. When any of the members of SHINee does something, the industry takes note and follows suit. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything -- with every one of their songs to their dances to clothing trends, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted -- there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. And Key's solo work is no exception. -- The End --

Part 3: As you may know, Key is our fashionista of the group, who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is known for really paying attention to detail when it comes to fashion. To Key, fashion is about being unique and looking for ways to stand out, without being outrageous. So everything you see him wearing will be very trendy and fashion forward. Key can pretty much wear anything -- time and time again, he has shown that the fashion styles and clothing that would often look ridiculous or just average on most people, when he wears it, always looks high fashion and cool. That same thing could be said about all the members of SHINee, with their own unique styles. Many people in the industry look to Key when it comes to fashion trends. That's also why SM has made him its director of fashion. Key is friends with several big name designers. With SHINee's experimental concept, the group is also known for creating fashion trends, so designers really covet a chance to work with any of the members of SHINee -- but especially Key -- because SHINee will give them street cred and undoubtedly make them more popular. Key is also known as SHINee's dance copy machine. He has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. He only needs to watch the dance once and he has it memorized. And on top of all of that, he is SHINee's fluent English speaker, and he is almost as good as a native speaker. That is why his pronunciation of the English lines in his songs are so crisp and clear. That is also why he specifically included the song "Helium" on his Bad Love album, which is all in English for his international fans.

Part 2: The person in the mirror is the woman who is haunting him with her bad love. He is thinking of her and remembering what she put him through during their relationship, so she appears in the mirror like a memory that won't go away. As Key has explained, the storyline in this MV is about how his character is going crazy, trapped in his mind, and while watching TV he projects himself into the scenes on TV. Every time the channel changes, his character is shown in a different scene in the MV. (And it's not modern day TV programs, as you can see from the aesthetic, it's supposed to remind you of '80s/'90s international/U.S. TV programs.) That is why at the end you see him haggard and worn out looking. The TV goes fuzzy and he is pulled out of his crazy warped fantasy world and brought back to reality. Where he is recovering from the "Bad Love."

Part 1: Bad Love" is straight out of classic '80s - rock ballad/ electro-rock/ dance-pop. However, it mixes in '60s, '70s era sci-fi elements. If you like the sci-fi retro theme in Key's "Bad Love" MV, if you haven't already, you should check out his "Bad Love Mood Sampler" video -- it's a teaser video that came out a few days before Bad Love's release. Now, that video is straight out of a '50s or '60s sci-fi TV show or movie and the storyline is connected to SM's Universe concept. Which will make all the campy-cool space images in the "Bad Love" MV make a lot more sense. As with everything SM does, it's all connected, so you have to take into consideration the storylines in Key's other MVs, as well as all of SM's other group MVs, etc. in order to really understand the storyline in any of its groups' MVs. For example, the space theme in "Bad Love" is connected to Key's "Hate That ..." MV, as well as pretty much all of SM's main storylines in all of its groups' MVs. The overall theme in SM's SM Culture Universe is all about space and other worlds, etc. Key said his style is more of the retro '80s/'90s MTV, so that's the treatment they used to come up with his comeback concept. SM's songwriter Kenzie was the lyricist/producer of this song with contributions made by Key. Key came to her with the idea to create a retro '80s/'90s style song that fit his vision for what he wanted this album to represent, and this is what Kenzie and Key came up with. Everything you see and hear was designed by Key. This is 100% authentically Key's style -- from the storyline of the MV to the sound and style of the song, to the outfits everyone wore, to the set design, etc. -- it's all based on his ideas and design. It's Key's vocals you hear in the whole song -- including the deeper whisper parts.

“Rain To Be” - I was waiting for this and when I saw the teasers I was abit concerned because of the water then I found out that majority of the equipment was probs so they wouldn’t get harmed but overall the MV and song is so amazing" The whole concept was giving me such Twilight, Regulus, Parting and A Book In Memory vibes along with “Ring On my Ears” energy that I couldn’t stop tearing up, I wish they weren’t still so underrated Band. #RainToBe #ONEWE #BringONEWEtoAmerica #StopAsianHATE *As you may know they also came out with “AuRoRa”*

So, here is my theory about what I think is happening in Key's "Hate That ..." MV. Some people have said they think Key was hitting a self-destruct button which caused his spaceship to carean out of control -- referencing how his life is self-destructing after the breakup -- but I interpret it more as he is pressing the button to disengage his space capsule from the rocket boosters, etc. which is what is keeping him up there in space and on a perpetual orbit of the Earth. So, when he hits the button we see the capsule detach from the rest of the ship and fall back down to Earth, where we then see him back on Earth with Taeyeon. (He is crash landing back to reality and is no longer allowing himself to orbit in the realm of living in the past and allowing himself to continue to obsess over the relationship.) Just to clarify, the words of the song are meant to be self-loathing. They say, "I hate that I hate that you're happy without me." So Key and Taeyeon are saying that they hate that they can't stop themselves from hating their ex just because that person is happy without them. So in other words, they are saying, we had a perfect breakup and it should have been easy, but "I hate that I still can't get over you and that I still love you. ... I wish you were in as much pain as I am right now," etc. They are saying that they are wishing or "praying" that their ex would regret breaking up with them because they wish their ex was having just as hard of time getting over them as they are. Key says I love you once in the song because he is only allowing himself to admit that he still loves them, once. It's like he can no longer hold back the fact that no matter how much he knows the breakup was for the best, he reluctantly has to admit that he still loves them. Fun fact: The song was originally wrote by Charlie Puth. At the end of the MV we see what looks like Taeyeon being rescued from the rock that she has been trapped on in the middle of the ocean. (The rock representing a rough, unforgiving place that is extremely uncomfortable, etc. in the middle of the cold desolate ocean all alone with nowhere to go.) Which I see as her being pulled out of that dark place. And as the news report on the TV screen says, "Breaking News: Woman rescued after ..." We don't know what comes after the word after because it's up to us all to decide how we choose to live our lives after a breakup, each individual person fills in the blank with their own idea of what "after" looks like. Key and Taeyeon are best friends and they have a sibling relationship -- often referred to as the Kim siblings -- so they are most definitely not portraying that they were in a relationship together. (That would just be kind of weird. LOL) As they mentioned during their VLive event before the premier of the MV, in the story they are talking about two separate relationships and going through their own experiences. Or portraying different sides of the same person. I see the story as way more metaphorical than just a simple breakup story, it's more like Taeyeon and Key are comizerating with each other because they understand what each other is going through. Yes, Taeyeon IS (Not was) the leader and main vocalist of Girls' Generation, also under SM Entertainment, who debuted in 2007 -- about a year before SHINee. She is considered one of the best female vocalists in Korea and is one of the most popular female solo artists as well. Taeyeon is currently 32 and Key is 29 -- he will be 30 Sept. 23. Taeyeon is really close with all the members of SHINee. She has also collaborated with Jonghyun in his song "Lonely" and Taemin's recent song "If I Could Tell You" which is on his Advice album. We're just waiting for her collab with Onew on his next album (wink, wink ... hoping Onew and Taeyeon are listening ;D) and with Minho when he makes his solo debut. Key had his solo debut in 2018 right before he went off to serve in the military, so he has one previous album called Face -- with MVs for his songs "Forever Yours" and "One of Those Nights" -- and his repackaged album I Wanna Be with it's title track "I Wanna Be" MV and his SM Station single "Cold" MV. Hate That ..." is a pre-release single, Key's second solo mini album Bad Love will be released Sept. 27. On a side note: As with everything that SM Entertainment does, it's been designed to all connect. All of SM's groups' concepts and MV storylines connect together and it's all part of one giant Universe and story that started in 2012 with EXO's debut. Everything that SM does is another chapter in their story, like a graphic novel or mystery movie series, and if you want to really follow the full story you have to pay attention to even the most minute of details with everything any of its groups or artists are involved in. So the story never ends. So, I think that with all the imagery of space in the "Hate That ..." MV, that at least a few scenes, if not the whole MV, also connects in someway to SM's SM Culture Universe larger storyline. I see the space theme not only connected to SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV, but also to their "I Want You" MV from 2018 and Key's "Forever Yours" solo debut MV also from 2018, among several of SM's other groups' MVs. I have a feeling that "Hate That ..." might connect to another part of SM's storyline, either with parts of the story in a past MV, or even things might become more clear in the future as this story connects to upcoming MVs, etc. As I am always reminding people, when it comes to SM content, if something reminds you of something else or you see similarities between something in one MV to something in another MV, than it was most likely done on purpose. Because pretty much everything SM does is connected, and nothing the company does is random. For example, I see obvious similarities between Taeyeon's red dress and black boots and Key's red outfit and black boots in SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV -- the red is a very specific shade of red -- and the way she is standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean is very similar to the way that Key was standing on the submerged phone booth in "Don't Call Me," which I see as being connected to SM's Universe storyline. And some have even pointed out that the canister you see break a hole through Key's space capsule and land next to Taeyeon in the water -- which is the same can we see on the table in front of Key when he is sitting in the diner, etc. -- could be a reference to the soda can we see Key holding in SHINee's "Atlantis" MV, etc. (However, I'm not yet sure whether Key brought the can from "Atlantis," or if the can magically appears in his hand in "Atlantis" because it is coming from its original location in "Hate That ...") So, because of this, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines -- and probably even now their 4th gen groups with the introduction of aespa last year -- are being designed to connect stories and plots. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connections between the groups. And that includes SuperM, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa, and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second generation, they actually fit within the age group of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. For example, some have pointed to the fact that NingNing's butterfly in aespa's concept from 2020 could be connected to the butterfly in EXO's debut"Mama" MV from 2012, and some have even made compelling arguments that it could even be connected to SHINee's butterfly in "Ring Ding Dong" from 2009. Or the blue roses we see in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV from 2016 may be connected to EXO's flower/blue rose concept, etc. Now I'm not completely convinced that SM would reach back that far, but it makes you question and consider things. :D I mean, we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's recent "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., who debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his most recent solo MV remake of H.O.T's song "Free to Fly." So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at bringing everyone into the storyline, including their older groups and artists. However, you should also know that no one really knows what is happening for sure in SM's Universe storyline. It's all fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed nor denied any of our theories and they have never explained anything. They have left it up to the fans to interpret the story and connect the pieces. And what makes this even more difficult is the story isn't being told in chronological order, so as fans you have to pay attention to everything and remember what you have seen and heard in previous content in order to decide where each piece fits within the larger storyline. And it's not just MVs, but it's with everything they do including teaser videos, concert VCRs (short videos played at concerts in between sets), live performances, song lyrics, online content released by SM, special extras included when you purchase an album, etc. It's super complex and all encompassing.
