Progress. I'd like to hear more of your low register. You seem best suited for musical theater.
@InfoArtistJK15 күн бұрын
Dimash uses all the vocal registers that are possible, yes, in the male voice but also in the female voice😊
@ChristofChapsis15 күн бұрын
Absolutely. Vocal mechanisms are gender neutral. In fact, you pointed out one of the most "wrongly" expressed parts of this video. I was writing my thesis/master research at the time which was also linked to my own vocal-technical progress. If I would re-do this video, I would be more prudent in my choice of words. Thanks for watching!

@ChristofChapsis I studied voice in the late 1980s in Washington, DC USA with Todd Duncan, the opera singer handpicked by George Gershwin to be his original Porgy in the grand opera Porgy and Bess. This past May 7th, I sang the "Star Spangled Banner" at a professional baseball game and am expecting to sing again at a professional football game this fall. I would study with you to prepare because of your amazing voice and understanding of Dimash, but I need to do it in person. I have the same voice type as you, however, my high notes are breathy and weak. Am I correct in thinking flageolet will help close the back of the vocal cords up on high notes ? Thank you for the video!
@ChristofChapsisАй бұрын
Hello dear singer, I'll try to answer with the information you gave. Flageolet is without a doubt beneficial for other registers, but what could be the problem here is that you start taking head voice/flageolet mechanisms too early/too low. Of course you also need some mass coming from the "other side", your chords at thicker length. I THINK you should work on strenghtening your low register in combination with your current exercice scheme. Slowly those two ends will come together, which will create a well developed mixed area for strong, powerfull high notes in the upper register (a bit different depending on the voice nature reserved for you). Be aware of what you are training during your practice.

Would vocal fry or straw phonation help?
@ChristofChapsisАй бұрын
I have no personal experience with that route of apprentice, but I gained a lot of controle in my vocal fry area THANKS TO flageolet training, so it would make sense. Try to do slides, starting in your cracky fry, all the way up in a thin sound (vertical projection) and keep the sound SMALL. This triggers me as avocal coach as well , keep me up to date! 😃

Well, the word "patience" is always involved when flageolet passes by. It needs the EXACT amount of airflow otherwise you get no sound, cracks, yells , tension etc. Don't give up!

So this song will be my last song in the music academy after 13 years of singing lessons. Thanks. But yeah the last high notes in the song right before dodo l'enfent are now to high for me. But I'll do some parts an octave lower. As well as the d'en hau, hau hau aut. Where he goes till E6
@ChristofChapsis25 күн бұрын
Always keep in mind that you can move an audience without extreme high notes. Don't and never get too obsessed with it, because they won't come that way, I know that from personal experience haha. That been said, it's good that you keep singing a song even when you can't YET sing everything that's written. You will get there when you keep the persistance. Thanks for watching!

Born with the physical architecture to train to world class level, 24 years of training, specialized training through voice change to preserve his prepubescent high notes, thousands of hours of practice, years in swim training to develop lung capacity and breath control, room temp beverages only after age 16 to protect his vocal cords. Easy ! Let's all do it ! You first ! Ha ! ,😂

I don't think your comment was offensive, but just to clarify. Of course these are just snippets from the lessons. I can't just "learn" someone to sing like Dimash, I totally can't, but he can be an enormous inspiration for every vocalist in terms of always trying to improve and get better. I never stated that Dimash didn't commit his whole life regarding vocal/musical training, he is extremely talented and a very hard worker. All kind regards, Christof
@MrFiore2 ай бұрын
You forget only one thing: a lot of playback to preserve his voice. Nothing against anyone it is only reality. Dimash is marvellous.
@user-te4of2fq5d2 ай бұрын
@@MrFiore I think not sir, with all due respect. He knows full well how to protect his voice, and what you suggest would be a professional, cultural and religious anathema to him.There are several venues that require it, the Kremlin for one, and he abides by their requirements. He went through a phase of YEARS of waving the microphone in front of his mouth because of those accusations, to prove he was actually singing so disturbing, his fans thinking it a new mic technique. I grew up in Kazakhstan, my sister and friends went to uni with him, our parents friends from working on various charities together. He has.been in school and under a coach since the age of 5 the 3rd generation of professional musicians and vocalists, both his parents are, his mother an opera star, what you suggest unprofessional by their standards and unnecessary if properly done, the voice cared for professionally. He practices a minimum of 3 hours a day, more when performing or on tour. I sang onstage on Broadway as a professional from age 4, living with an aunt in Manhattan, my family in Kazakhstan (my Dad is a petroleum engineer there) we as " kid performers" rehearsed with a coach for 2-3 hours a day, did 6 shows a week and 2 matinees and in a lifetime of it, I've never known a professional to do it. Perhaps in the pop, rock genre, no other. Great artists like Dimash LIVE for performing, he wouldn't think of it !
@SCVocalStudentReactsАй бұрын
Christof's student here, and I'm not offended either, but heartily agree with your explanation of Dimash's astounding vocal excellence. I recognize that even if I were similarly gifted, at 66, I'm far too old too have any hope of ever coming close to Dimash's abilities. Rather than seeing his skill level as a destination for me, I embrace it as a "direction' instead, a standard to pursue and aim at, even though I know I'll never actually attain any real likeness to his unique vocal skill. I do know that I can, however, with the help of an excellent and encouraging coach, learn to be a much better singer than I was when I began this journey. Sometimes we just need to see (or hear) just what the human voice is capable of. What a remarkable gift it is. Thank you for your feedback and for sharing insights into Dimash's background and dedication that I hadn't learned elsewhere.
