Reminds me of meeting my “straight” stepbrother at a 4th of July reception our parents had after they got married. I was 26 and he was 22. We were hanging out and drinking and swimming and laughing for hours. Everyone had gone to bed and it was just he and I sitting by the pool with beers at like 3am. He told he had more fun with me that night than he had had with anyone in a long time and that’s when the butterflies started. After a few weeks, he said he was hanging out with me more than any of his girlfriends and I took that as a Yellow Light or Proceed With Caution rather than a stop sign. Our first kiss was in the woods near a river. Our first everything was near that river..it was amazing. He and I wound up dating on the DL for about 2 years until the parents found out. My father didn’t care but my stepmom (his mom) was conservative and appalled and promptly lost her mind. She destroyed it by making everyone’s life miserable. Tho in truth, he just wanted a straight life with women and it was just too difficult. That was 21 years ago. He was so beautiful…that first summer was so beautiful! Your film took me back to that time because it felt so much like the conversation(s) we had in the beginning. Thank you so much for that.
