I’ve been thinking about hair sheep. I’m worried about having to shear them.
@homesteadknowhowКүн бұрын
If you're not wanting to get wool, hair sheep are usually bit more efficient on feed because they have less energy directed to growing their coat. Hair sheep are probably a better fit for you.

Just got home from picking up four rounds of hickory measuring from 28"-35" across and roughly 24" tall. Im 59 yrs old and know i can't pick them up safely. I took my splitting axe and split it around basically shaving it down into manageable pieces. Heaviest piece? Roughly 50lbs. I use your method too if im home processing firewood

@homesteadknowhow yeah they're split in firebox size chunks and stacked in my garage next to a converted cylinder drum from a thick steel cement mixer I turned into a wood burning stove. Keeps everything from Freezing

Hehe, nice! I will make several of those boxes, except they will each be about double the width (1.2 m) and have wire mesh on the bottom. I'll be planting my cobnut seeds in and grow trees.

Our worm bin is the personal project of my 4-year-old. It could have been managed better but she's learning. She had been selling her worms to her older sister as chicken feed.

Thank you. I'm so glad you watched today! We're still planting more willow and poplar, and working on crafting a rainwater pond in the midst of them.

Can you talk about meds you need to give next time. What do we need to have in our arsenal? Antibiotics ect. Thank you!
@homesteadknowhow2 күн бұрын
I have never kept antibiotics for any of our animals. I do use a few basic, mostly homemade treatments for the few problems we have had over the years. I'm much bigger on prevention. We use traditional homemade remedies, antiseptic, basic wormer on occasion, and a suture/scalpel kit. I'll be making a livestock medical video soon.

What causes creosote is moisture. If pine or other softwood were so bad how is it that so many ppl in northern states that have no hardwood don’t have creosote issues

Thanks so much brother. We had been without heat for a few days and I needed to either get my ventless natural gas heater going again or drop a grand or so real quick. Happened on to your video and it really made since to me. Opened it up to the pilot assembly and sure enough the vent hole was clogged with dust. Cleaned it up and within minutes the stove is doing it’s job. We are thankful. My family thanks you👍

What brand is a good one?
@homesteadknowhow5 күн бұрын
Pretty much alloc these type units are built the same. Most are even built by the same manufacturer but under different brand names.

Mine is 25 years old. I've only cleaned the pilot office about 3 times. Some good information & tips here . When wall mounting place the unit as close as safely possible to minimize cold feet . Air to be warmer is drawn in near the bottom and heated air dispersed out the top/front .

I learned from this video and it sparked a question: would a handle help with that wobbly wedge - wait, that would be like a maul - so, could you swing your small hammer into the maul to make help with the accuracy?
@homesteadknowhow11 күн бұрын
Perhaps
@jalontf212 күн бұрын
I find if you can get a good bite on one edge, leave the maul in and hit the opposite edge with your other maul/splitting ax, it works

Bois D Arc is a 15……it will burn so hot it will damage a masonry firebox if you burn it too much or too much at one time. It also makes coals that will stay viable for days.

I criss-cross stack my firewood. Great drying ventilation and discourages critters. I tarp it over. Takes more space though. Twice a year take tarp off for a few dry days, use a leaf blower to blow out critters/debris.

5 years ago I mounted my ventless propane heater to the wall and built a faux mantle around the top and sides of the heater, the front of the mantle (under the heater) is screened. I have never experienced any of the problems mentioned in this video. Maybe the heater does better when it isn’t on the floor?
