Am I correct in my understanding, "Help me Bob, I'm bully in the alley" is along the lines of "Help my God I'm drunk in the gutter"? Or was that simply a tall tale from my uncle?

Absolutely a tribute to these men that after all these years this is still the best version of this song. Recorded on a phone, no doubt. I wouldn’t change a thing. Play it at my funeral.

Loved that, wholesome english singing, We need more singing in the world. Music has become too much of a spectator activity. Music is best enjoyed when your making it. <3

wonderful rendition! my ancestors were coal miners so this one hits home. i believe it is based upon a well-known country gospel song from the US commonly called "Life Is Like a Mountain Railway" or "Life's Railway to Heaven," usually credited to Charles Davis Tillman. Look for Johnny Cash's version as an introduction to the song. The lyrics are based upon a poem by Will S. Hays called "The Faithful Engineer." The melody is also used in a hymn called "When Our Lord Shall Come Again."

Micheal, excuse my clumsy way English, but I come from a Spanish-speaking country; Argentina; but I feel deep ties between our cultures and the men and women of work and sacrifice from around the world. I first heard this song in the "Artfull Dodger" series, I LOVE Dikens ( I love Victor Hugo too). Both place marginal, simple and vulnerable men and women at the center of the scene. (They were mediums who channeled deep knowledge and helped society evolve). I know and love many aspects of British culture and I learned about the sacrifice of children during the industrial revolution, railway development, mining, hunger and poverty of the proletarian classes as everywhere and from the bottom of this epic of Everyday life emerges this wonderful expression of friendship, improvement and hope; WOW!!! I shake your hand from the bottom of the American continent, one day we will all hug each other in eternity.
