Talking about an odd front? Works great vs odd. If they have you outnumbered in the box you have to throw quick screens until they cover your receivers.

I love having the post over the top of the dig as a standard in the play. Keeps a one-high safety honest. I think that’s how Leach called it at Washington.

We run the Sail concept on the frontside, but that stacked smash look is awesome against Cover 3. Not sure if a safety would come off the hash for that 12 yard out in a 2-High look.

Love man to man , huge Buddy Ryan fan , of course it, the 46 has had to make modifications for today , but so has the west coast offense! Btw, I would love to talk to Frazier and Richardson from those great teams. Those corners are often overlooked. Great video btw,

I like it too! We did some similar things, my mentor coach is a genius he like myself believe in pressure.That’s the bottom line to this defense, pressure if you like constantly attacking in overwhelming numbers and absolutely testing the AB’s toughness to see if he will stand in that pocket and deliver. Some don’t like because the nature of 46 because of the wide open offenses and the constant rule changes that favor the offense and more specifically the qb. Yet, if the 46 is your philosophy as nasty has it gets. I also discovered as a young coach that we just weren’t getting the pressure I wanted with just the front four and in the meantime we were getting picked apart.I’m still a believer! Coach, this is an excellent explanation of this. I have coached in the Air Raid in CA and we regularly passed for 3,000 yards with some pretty average guys. In fact, I threw my dang arm out doing this! I love having the QB go through all his reads even after throwing. And simulating man/zone drops, we never did that. Genius! I am a DC and glad I do not have to play you!

46 defense worked when offenses were more standard in their formations 2 receivers 1 tight end 1 back 1 full back. It doesn't work against spread offenses.

@@CoachJoeSalas You can run it but you can't run it every down and you better disguise it from time to time. You can't run it every down like the Bears 85' did just my opinion or you will get burned. Also teams today all have fast QB's so even if you do get pressure the QB can just run away from it.

Every defense or system works if you believe in it. Of course you have to modify it. The west coast offense still works today , you don’t think Andy Reid has modified it from what Bill Walsh was doing?

Balanced offenses give the 46 trouble; Balanced offenses make the 46 into the Eagle.

@CoachJoeSalas coach Ryan designed the 46 to defend the traditional pro set, or pro I, qb and two running backs, a split-end (x), tight-end (y), and flanker back (z). The 46 puts 6 defenders on the y side. A defense with two tight ends, or a tight slot, or say the flexbone forces the 46 to balance out.

We use a wide alignment all the time. Yes if the safety backpedals we go to Sail.

I was an Air Raid guy at first. When I stumbled across the Run and Shoot, I’ve change my whole passing game around choice alone. My fav is the old Texas route and Switch.

We run all the Air Raid concepts but Choice is a beast of a play and by far our favorite.

@@CoachJoeSalas It can revolutionize an offense. I’ve ran choice with all receivers and that’s our entire passing game, along with Y Cross and Shallow Cross. It’s like the old school Triple Option but in the passing game. You run it, run it and keep running it.

Coach I got a question about sophisticated way to run 4 Verts I watched Dre Piscopo talk about deop out routes at 15 yards for the outside receivers when they got zone turns by the Corners Then I saw Bedwell talk about sitting the drop outs down when they are in the Corners blind spot so no designated yardage to sit down Which do you feel is easiest? Logically I would say 15 is easiest but wanna run it by someone who knows more than me

Both are super effective just have to decide which one you like best. We use choice route now so we have a yardage when we make our decision.
