I dunno, if these batteries had their own heater, but Li batteries will not accept a charge below freezing and many BMS cut it it off at 5C or something. So, maybe it failed, but the owner has to know their vehicle as well. However, with the second alternator or using the generator, I'm not sure why either would not give power to the AC devices and the converter to keep you going. I know things are high tech, to me some transfer switch is not working properly.

Yes, they do have a heater - drains the batteries quite rapidly if temp is less than about 15F or thereabouts. The root cause of these problems turned out to be three things: 1. A wiring issue that needed to be corrected to put the shore power in the ‘right’ order with the various computerized components. 2. A software upgrade. 3. A new control panel. Since these fixes (which then ended up as a recall/fix for everyone else with these models) we have had no issues :-)

I would expect that A/S needs to do some better evaluations before sending things to market, unless of course it was a one off failure, but it does not sound like given your description. Travel safe.

Anyone know where the 12v cigarette lighter fuse is for the center console -? It blew - everything else works so likely fuse - got a small 500W inverter to run starlink - after a few days blew fuse -- I have no idea where it is. searched web. Know it's a 10 or 15 A fuse -- maybe under the drivers seat or floor foot panel somewhere --- on my way to Edmonton to get the real fix in but miles to go before I sleep

Found it - passenger footwell - toolbox underneath, remove floor cover, remove toolbox - fuse panel there. It's a 15 amp. fixed. Now Starlink back in action. onward Mcduff. beer for my horses, whiskey in Whitehorse for me.

My 2024 AI24 GL E1 AWD is in the shop right now for the same problem. They said the PDU was bad. Did they replace your PDU or give it a firmware update?

I just looked at the docs from the repair and it doesn’t say if it is new. My guess is yes, though, based on when the old one made it to Volta, and when the fixed unit made it back to Airstream.

@@SunnyApproach Today I received a letter from Airstream about some Enhancements for Touring coaches with the E1 package. The letter said it was for 2023, 2024, & 2025 year models with the E1. Have you received anything like that and do you know if what you got is the enhancements you received? I posted a copy in the FB Airstream Interstate group and I'm pretty sure your wife is in that as she has mentioned some of your videos.

One change on the updated Volta system is that it now tells us how long it will take to get to a full charge when it has current coming in. Also seem to be getting more trickle charge for solar than before.

I have the exact same model as you Sunny. Bought new Dec 2024. Airstream added Starlink aftermarket for me. Same issues you are having - same solutions worked, until they didn't anymore. Software screen updated - no joy. Contacted Volta this week - mid-BC Yukon right now - tech said last week (July 24) they released a firmware fix - but -- must be installed by AS dealer - closest in Edmonton, AB - but I need to go to Anchorage first. So I bought a 1.2KW Amp Arc Li battery at Canadian Tire - charges in 1 hr about off 120v - runs my Starlink for a day during travel since there's no cell most of the time out here- am staying at RV powered campgrounds in meantime. Until I get to Edmonton - that is the solution. Microwave et al - AC - nope without inverter. History of vehicle - dead Volta on arrival, replaced. Then blew fuse (100 amp) I surmise in Volta inverter or somewhere. Volta said they'd replace the whole system if necessary. I live in my RV, electronic off-grid musician - run electronics. When it works it's amazing. I'm not a whiner - I can fix most things - but my unit has been massively flawed. I can't really blame Airstream, or Mercedes - but here's a list of the problems I've had: Chassis Battery draining to zero a week after purchase (Portland 4d). fuse replaced. Elwell - repeated low coolant error (diesel unit) - shutting down in Canada -- had AS look at it, told was fine - wasn't fine - had to add coolant myself. fixed. Auto-level system- wasn't deploying - parking brake not sensed- took to Mercedes after calling AS -- then Mercedes punted it back to AS - loose sensor wire to parking brake. Then, I retracted it and felt a lurch - it bent the front right strut - still works, but bent - guessing it was off the ground and caught. AS says, maybe it's warrantied? wtf. Down a week. Windshield sensor - didn't work - Mercedes fixed (Portland 2d) Engine light came on - Mercedes had to reprogram software (Savannah GA 3d) Pex clamps to heater hoses blew soaking the rear under chaise area- had to be replaced (Seattle 3 d) Awning sensor - repeated alarms when closed - fixed it myself by bolstering lever with duct tape after multiple failed fixes by AS External shower not working after service- AS couldn't figure it out on phone - I did. They forgot to re-open the hose clamps under fridge during service. Freezer fan clicking - a wire is hitting it after service - I zip tied them, it's better, but unit needs to be taken out and wires restowed. Cupboard latches and under cabinet clamps - multiple broke. I just bought a bunch - they are flimsy - cheaper than an AirBnB to just buy the parts and fix myself. And - oil filter is Mercedes - made in Germany - can't change oil at Jiffy lube etc - gotta buy one at Mercedes Sprinter dealer or special order. a PITA. New engines need frequent oil changes with a turbo diesel especially. When the unit runs - it's a dream. It's gorgeous - mine is grey and black - I love it. It gets compliments and respect --- But. Seems like Airstream would reimburse me for my AirBnbs and downtime -- I've had the unit for 7 months, and been down over 6 weeks. I've kept all my service records of course - but I think I'm going to write Airstream a letter documenting all this stuff. What could it hurt. I've driven BMWs Porsches and Volvos most of my life - ya I'm privileged. That's why I went with Mercedes and AS. This has been very disappointing. But. I keep walking forward.

Thanks for remaining positive through your woes! I do think there is light at the end of the tunnel for us, but the wait is excruciating. Our unit is still at the dealership; they installed a new Volta system, but not working 100% yet … the story of our lives. Their warranty disclaims all responsibility for loss of use. The additional insurance (eg GoodSam) does help out if your trip was interrupted but all our problems have been identified at home! We’ll keep sharing what we find out when we get our unit back in the hope that it helps others.

I Appreciate seeing others solve problems- and your pragmatic approach to things. When this runs as designed it's F-ing amazing. Insurance is designed to make money, not pay money - anything I receive I'm grateful for. Will continue to follow. Meanwhile - I got a jetboil hehe - amazing unit. I save my Lithium for Starlink as necessary - 8 h run time on a battery - unless it's heating during the rain etc - burns power then. But compared to 10 - 20 y ago - this is amazing. I don't use micro or convection anyway - can wait. Thank you again for your vids.

I love your positive can-do attitude! This is what our channel is about (hence Sunny Approach). Going to be doing some videos soon on the new Starlink mini. Also a 1 year update on ownership. We just returned from an 1100 mile 4-day ‘shakedown’ of the updated Volta. Worked 100% as we would have expected. Letters about the upgrade are also being mailed out to owners. Am so hopeful for all of us because these are terrific ways for solo/dual travelers to enjoy the great outdoors and have flexible living arrangements.

Thanks for posting. I had so many questions once our Gardyn starting looking great. I was behind on thinning, I just pulled and cut as you did. Those roots will extend far if you don't stay on top of it. Today will be changing the water so great to see someone else do it first. Question for you: When you thin did you pull out any vegetable plants that had more than one in a pod?

We followed the Gardyn guide as far as thinning goes, “Typically, most fruiting plants & leafy greens should be thinned to 1 plant per yCube, while most herbs & bushy plants such as flowers should be thinned to 3 plants per yCube.” (help.mygardyn.com/en/articles/1771329) - hope this helps, and glad you found our videos helpful!

Same here but worse. Started having issues where we would be driving and I’d get an alert on my iPhone to restart Volta and the read the codes. But no codes. Each time it would stop charging even when driving and start to drain the batteries. The restart helped but not for long. Eventually charging stopped completely from any source. Then unfortunately batteries went to Zero. That’s ok because we can drive and turn on the inverter and use the Air Conditioner while driving in the 110 degree desert. Opps now the inverter won’t work!!! Only 12 volt DC. Okay close the shades and use the front AC to start limping home. Oh no now the 12volt doesn’t work and the system won’t even bother up. Thank god the shades are down otherwise the sun would heat up the back too much for the front AC to work. Sorry kids you have to sit in back with no lights or TV. Here is my iPad. Thank God I have cell service. No toilet no refrigerator no nothing. Just an over SIZE SUV maybe worse. We bought it and the said they had to change the batteries because the sales team left the lights on but everything is ok. It’s in the shop now. They say it’s becoming common. Hopefully that means there’s a fix! They say maybe just a software update date but it might need a new inverter. I have no doubt they will get it working but this time I’ll test it HARD in my driveway and Locally before doing another 9,000 mile see the USA trip. I hope they have an answer otherwise LEMON LAW.

Ours also is now completely dead. We will do an update video when we get it back. Hopefully this week (they have had it for 3 weeks now). I don’t expect any relief from lemon law statutes on these issues. Maybe a class action lawsuit should there be any lawyer bored enough to pursue Thor / Airstream for selling a system that is clearly not fully tested.

Mine is in the shop after our first trip. I would get fault message on my iPhone to restart Volta and the. Read the fault reasons. But after resetting no reason codes. After doing that and while driving it decided not to change. Eventually it went to zero. And eventually even driving we could not get inverter to turn on so we only had 12v DC. Eventually that failed. And now we can not event boot the system… everything is dead. Finally made it home and it’s in the shop. When we got it originally the batteries were dead but they said sales left the lights on and we shouldn’t have any issues. Well we did!!! This time when I get it back I’ll test it HARD and if it fails again it’s LEMON law time

It truly is a pain - we have been without power in the unit multiple times while traveling. This time we decided to let them try and fix it for good before the autumn so we can not worry about it during the better traveling months. There -is- supposed to be a firmware update coming but it has not passed testing yet.

When possible we fill up at the truck stops where they have the DEF because it is so much cheaper. A couple of times we’ve had to buy it in the ‘blue def’ boxes 🥶

You should never plug a motorhome or B Van power to a hot 30 amps. You should turn off the breaker to the 30 amp plug, then plug in the van, then turn on the breaker. It can cause a surge if plugging into a hot plug. Usually it will blow a breaker in the RV, but it can also damage any electrical in the RV.

I have certainly heard your viewpoint. It differs from what we were told as standard operation with the SmartPlug. Our electricity is fully filtered at the house (we are off-grid) though, so less of a risk than at a public campground. Appreciate you sharing your wisdom here; we can all learn from each other’s experiences.

I would not purchase one right now until the problems are fixed by Airstream / Volta. There are just way too many of us (see Air Forums, KZbin, Facebook airstream addicts, etc.) with issues with the 2023/2024 models. I am sure they will solve it - but some folks have had very long times without being able to use their rig because of it.

I use the collapsible silicone bowls. They are smaller and give the dog deeper water to drink from.

Yes, the silicone ones are very good - and easy to clean too. We bought this one because it is so incredibly light to carry on a backpack.

This particular trail has been around since before the Civil War. I expect that animals have been using the paths that intersect for a very long time too. Some say that many of our highways mirror the ‘megafauna game trails’ or regular ‘game trails’.
