Still remember his weekday show after Johnny Walker , must have been around ‘72 when he had Sylvia by Focus as Freemans Fancy one week. Heard it in my way home from school and bought it that weekend. Thanks Fluff - you made the grey days a lot brighter

Two electrified railways that climbs up into the decent mountaintop ranges of Snaefell in all of the Isle of Man. I tell ya, it would be astounding to make a _Railway Series_ book to base some nice stories on the events and settings of this exact railway. I wonder if Wilbert Awdry ever got to visit the Manx and Snaefell to see how much promotion he would give for railway enthusiasts, employees, and tourists to come along with their families and friends who are super fascinated with trains, then again I wonder if he ever got to go to the Isle of Man at all when he lived his time here on this very Earth. Another genuine _Railway Series_ book on mountain railways would absolutely credit great premise for its suffices. Same can be said to every other mountain railway in different countries of the world.

The scenery of the British countryside is always beautiful. As a Japanese, I am happy to see Japanese-made trains running through such beautiful scenery, but at the same time I regret that I cannot see Britain's own latest rolling stock. I hope that one day the domestic rail industry in U.K. will show its pride in being the birthplace of railways, and regain the ability to produce its own unique rolling stock again.

My old friend used to work at Coningsby when the Lightnings were there. He said you could tell the Lightning ground crew because of the state of their berets which were always “distressed” from where they’d tried use them to put out AVPIN fires when that hateful fluid had been spilled or leaked then lit off spontaneously.

Around 1973. Alan "Fluff" Freeman played a few snippets for the next week show. They were tracks by a group called "Gentlemen". The band line up had a certain Rick Fenn in it who later became a member of 10CC. The three tracks were "Waiting to Die" "No Looking Back" and "Just a Child". Three great tracks that I recorded on a tape cassette the following week and carried it everywhere. It is a terrible recording, but I have it on my phone and PC and listen to it regularly.

I was so lucky to have had family stationed at Lakenheath and Mildenhall. I remember this show so well. We entered the staff parking area and were transferred into the field trucks and taken over to the crash station. The view from the side of the runway was spectacular. BBQ going, no queue for the toilets and best of all, we got to meet some of the pilots and get up close to the HUGE fire trucks. I was just 11 at the time and will always remember the whole week we spent on the base.

For those who are interested but don't know them, here are the titles of the snippets used to make up this sting: 1) Slavonic Dance No. 8 'Furiant' by Dvorak 2) 'Frankenstein' by the Edgar Winter Group (1 of 2) 3) Les Toreadors from Carmen Suite No.1 by Bizet 4) (very brief) 'Frankenstein' by the Edgar Winter Group (2 of 2) 5) Main Theme: At The Sign Of The Swinging Cymbal (Brass Incorporated version) This version replaced the original Brian Fahey version sometime in 1971. 6) (near the end) after Alan says "and..." 'Shipwreck' from Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov. Sorry, but I don't know which recordings of the classical snippets were taken from. I too, had my musical taste and repertoire greatly enhanced by Alan's Saturday afternoon show on Radio 1 (relayed via Radio 2 as well) which IIRC, aired from 3 - 5pm. Alan also used other classical snippets for his other stings, but I cannot remember which ones were used.

This is a conservation area and having trees removed is frowned upon, The two yew trees estimated over 300 years old that were here had to be removed due to a disease eating away the trunk that safety to person and property that the order to remove them was granted. The stumps remain and levelled to use as garden tables. Thank you for the interest.
