I just found one of these at the thrift store but am having trouble as the device shuts off after a few seconds once the power button is pressed. What kind of service did you have done to this VCR? I read power supply is an issue
@njm1971nyc2 ай бұрын
Unlikely to be a power supply fault. Power supplies on these old decks were very simple linear psu's, no complicated switched-mode-PSUs (typically). Your problems are almost certainly caused by worn belts &/or worn rubber idler wheels.
@njm1971nyc2 ай бұрын
and/or dirty mode switch contacts.

The shut down is more likely to be intentional (due to mechanical issues) rather than an electronic fault.

DON'T SHOOT THESE INTO THE SUN YOU NINNY that kills the pickup tube, EXTREMELY bad for it. Clearly you didn't know what you were doing, the zoom on these is a series of focal distance achieved from the same position lenses NOT an in-and-out! You need to use a portable VCR with the Panasonic bar battery, not lug your friggin 10 year old's room TV into a field like a lunatic. Appreciate the interest but please learn some gosh darn things about vintage equipment instead of treating it like a smartphone camera and thereby abusing it.
