Lui ai tempi recitava a pene di cane, faceva l’attore da un paio d’anni solo. Lei invece qui ha raggiunto il massimo. Comunque a me è piaciuto molto di più La Notte.

Everyone is saying Elliot is a super nice and classy guy. But in what universe would a nice guy do this gift-unwrapping thing in front of all guests, especially since he knows some of his guests are not that wealthy. Elliot is clearly not an idiot or an 8-year old, and the only explanation is that he did it intentionally to embarrass Walt because he did have some beef with Walt. That's why Skyler and Walt looked nervous and embarrassed when Elliot commented on the Eric Clapton guitar. Skyler was even asking "why is he doing this?", which proves that what Elliot did here was not very nice and in fact made them uncomfortable. But Walt countered it intelligently. He created a situation where Elliot HAD TO show class and appreciation. Imagine if Elliot became angry and started to ridicule Walt and then Walt revealed the story behind the gift in front of everybody - it would make Elliot look like a jerk. Moreover, the ramen perhaps truly moved Elliot, reminding him of their past friendship. So after some quick thought, Elliot decided to drop the beef and gave Walter warm recognition. The writer is great but it seems that not many people fully understand the subtleties here.

Elliot really seemed like a good person. Making walt feel recognized and showing off appreciation. It makes me feel sad for Gretchen and Elliot because they seem like they actually cared for Walt while he had so much unnecessary hatred towards them.

What I love about this is everyone around them is just there for business reasons. And they’re just getting expensive gifts they think Elliot will like. But when Elliot opens Walts gift, he actually felt emotional. And even Gretchen recognized the ramen and knew what it represented. The only man there that genuinely knew Elliot was Walt.

"For the man who has everything..." This says alot about the bitterness deep inside Walt. He could've simply said, "I love you, man." or something neutral and friendly like that.

I remember having the same experience at a friend's birthday. People got her wonderboxes, fancy dishes, jewelries... bla, bla, bla. And I just came by and offered her a pack of eucalyptus tissues (you know, those green ones that smell menthol ?), and she looked *so* happy because when I first met her, I was having a cold and I used those tissues to help my nose feeling better. She was coming from a different country than mine and she never saw those. She asked me one, just to breathe the eucalyptus and she was very amused. So, when I gifted her those packets, she was just super happy and emotional, which made all the other gifts look really blend and unpersonal. Just one of the things money can't buy.

How could a middle-lower class person like Walter not have an ego? He is certainly not on the level of the other rich prestigious people around him, so how is going to have respect if he does not have an ego?

Did you know? - Elliot never had success with his company, instead he actually made his money as a druglord but had to hide his success from his less successful druglord brother by establishing a shell company that just so happened to 'legitimately do well.' When Elliot suddenly is diagnosed as completely healthy on a routine check up, he chooses to break good by partnering up with Walt Jr. and secretly funding the DEA. He flies under the radar by laundering his donations through Lyle at Los Pollos Hermanos. And lets Saul Goodman be his lawyer and least-assumed man in the middle. Balancing out Saul's conscience that he serves one part evil and one part good. Elliot accidentally drops a pizza off a roof, and later stands up against Gretchen with his infamous quote: "A guy hears a knock at the door and gets shot, you think that of me? NO! I am the one who locks.. the door properly!" He also stands up against Hank with this infamous quote: "A guy orders rocks to his door and you think of them as minerals. NO! I am the one who rocks."

This scene shows purely the internal struggle of Walt. On the one hand, Walt wants to connect with Elliot and gives him a very thoughtful gift. Shows Walt still has a heart inside him (at least then). But at the same time, Walt’s discomfort represents his ego, and his struggle to accept himself for who he is (he wasn’t born rich which is why he got insecure with Gretchen and abandoned her). Basically Walt’s story is a tragedy because he allows his inner demons and inner ego to ruin his life. The good side of himself loses and this show is the depressing consequence of that fact.
