My brother in law lives in Baltimore by Johns Hopkins hospital. His truck has gotten broken into twice in 2 months time. Hopefully that criminal doesn’t come back before he moves, Cause then we’re gonna have a poor dead criminal on the news

My issue with Baltimore is that the 'nice' neighborhoods are often a 4-6 block area surrounded by squalor. You can go for a walk/run around the block and around the block and around the block. There is no larger area where you find pride in homeownership that is kept clean and safe that a middle to middle high income person can afford. Also those neighborhoods have very few nicer apartment complexes. You can find a few 1950's-1960's apartment buildings but no amenities like covered parking or really anything extra. And you will still pay more premium pricing than is warranted. But to be fair, I think the general non-pride in ownership and disrespectful littering and such is getting more common everywhere and not just here.

Lived there for 15 years. Now I’m on 6 acres up in Harford County. I wish we had moved 10 years earlier. I liked living there before we had kids and the house was very affordable, BUT we didn’t get much for it when we finally sold it. In 18 years the house barely doubled in value and that was with me doing a ton of work to it. Also, being white in an 80% black city is just a low-key drag that eats away at you. The litter, the crime, the noise, the rudeness, having to lock everything at all times… it got old. Now we’re up in a 95% white zip code and enjoying the kind of peaceful, high trust community that only our people can create. Parkton, Monkton and Fallston are full of ex-Baltimore residents who feel the same way, they just may not admit it! 😅

And based off of a Reddit post it's relatively safe here? Can someone chime in. And I love how the population is close to my hometowns. To me that is a plus.

The MARC commuter train is the best way to travel between cities, especially to DC and the airport. They go as far west as Martinsburg for places like the Appalachian Trail. Also, check out the Charm City Circulator, a free bus in downtown Baltimore. Thanks for the Baltimore review.

For travel, we also have cruises coming/ going from the port, and have train/ Acela service. Even cities that have the others pros don't have these additional perks. Megabus service was cool too. RIP.

10:53 Baltimore is NOT a growing city. It is quite the opposite. It is a shrinking city, and the population data is very easy to find. Credit the corrupt communist one-party rule over the past sixty years for that.

I lived in Baltimore City for 2 years and my car was stolen and totaled. After the Freddy Gray riots in got even worse if you can imagine that. Democrat leadership over the past 40 years has ran the city into the ground and sadly, I don't think it can recover. Now it's spread to the county. I moved to Carroll County earlier this year to escape all of it. I'm in heaven out here.

Being here a month, from Florida, the weather is lovely (even the hot humid days are nothing on FL, the traffic has been fine (way better than the Tampa area and forget Lauderdale/Miami), the city has great bones and some really nice neighborhoods that are vibrant. There’s a great jazz and old time music scene. Cool history and waterfront access to the Chesapeake, on the NE rail corridor. All cities have their issues. Heck, all places do…I grew up rural and there were abandoned homes and places in town you didn’t go there.

Owning a house there was one of those big-picture life screw ups for us. Over 18 years it barely appreciated at all. Bought it for 100k and sold it for 250k, after putting a ton of work into it over the years. If that had been anywhere else I’d have tripled my money in that time. I try not to dwell on what a waste it was.

I'm a Baltimore City (downtown/Mount Vernon) resident and I also like living here, despite the problems. I generally think you covered the major problems accurately and fairly. I do question where you came up with the strong notion that the homeless population is increasing, as the information I have suggests it has been level or dropping in recent years, and efforts appear under way to relocate homeless campers from problem areas and into hotels. My personal favorite gripe about Baltimore City is the poor quality of the downtown road surfaces. I feel like no matter how much road construction goes on, the roads remain awful.

I lived on E Preston and Mt Vernon in 2018 and I racked up tons of parking tickets and got towed twice within 7 months before the leasing office sold the building and kicked everyone out during Thanksgiving holiday with a broken elevator. Now that Eddies is closed permanently due to staff being held at knifepoint, there's no reason to live in Mt Vernon.

When I was young, Salisbury was a great classic eastern shore town!! I mean a wonderful town, then came diversity and there went the town straight down the crapper!! One thing this list has in common is diversity, Ocean City, no good no more, family's now avoid the once spectator resort town... such a travesty.
