I just checked the website and Leslie must have retired because she is no longer listed under employees. I would love to work at the Atlanta Center conserving paper good and paintings.

What a wonderful partnership of two spectacular artists. I first learned about Boris through the fantasy books I read in the 80s with his covers and didn’t realize that Julie was the artist behind video games and posters that I had seen when I was younger. Kudos to both for inspiring my own photography.

We signed this prior to Pearl Harbor. More proof that we were never neutral. The FDR Administration wanted us in that war, and did everything to get us into it. The definition of a traitor.

The machine in the right-hand corner is a 1920s Tesla Coil made by HG Fischer Corporation for Thompson & Plaster... it was used for surgical and X-Ray use, and the X-Ray tube and stand can be seen next to the machine. There is also a 1920s ultraviolet lamp in the left of the painting. Very cool piece, I have some of the original machines in my museum and also have the 1947 article in the Saturday Evening Post "Norman Rockwell Visits A Family Doctor".

Rose got her early training from J. Laurie Wallace, in Omaha. Harry Leon Wilson was working for the Union Pacific Railroad, in Omaha, as a clerk, doing writing on the side. Wilson went to New York to work for "Puck" and met Rose, who had also lived in Omaha , when she submitted art. -Omaha Daily Bee News Sept. 05, 1921 p. 3.

Drawing with paint! But also sculpting with paint. It’s weird how the 3D surface of the subject can come through in the marks when the artist is focused on the planes of the subject.

I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole with her work after reading the waves. While they say to never judge a book by its cover the striking art done by Bascove struck me deeply and I purchased the book even just for the cover. It's since become my favorite work of literature and I must give my thanks to Bascove for this.

Nudity (or near-complete nudity) has traditionally been the social norm for both men and women in hunter-gatherer cultures in warm climates, and it is still common among many indigenous peoples The ancient Greeks associated the male nude form with triumph, glory, and even moral excellence - the art of Boris and Julie has given the female nude that same status.
