I first learned about Boris through the fantasy books I read in the 80s with his covers and didn’t realize that Julie was the artist behind video games and posters that I had seen when I was younger. Kudos to both for inspiring my own photography.

The machine in the right-hand corner is a 1920s Tesla Coil made by HG Fischer Corporation for Thompson & Plaster... it was used for surgical and X-Ray use, and the X-Ray tube and stand can be seen next to the machine. There is also a 1920s ultraviolet lamp in the left of the painting. Very cool piece, I have some of the original machines in my museum and also have the 1947 article in the Saturday Evening Post "Norman Rockwell Visits A Family Doctor".

Rose got her early training from J. Laurie Wallace, in Omaha. Harry Leon Wilson was working for the Union Pacific Railroad, in Omaha, as a clerk, doing writing on the side. I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole with her work after reading the waves. While they say to never judge a book by its cover the striking art done by Bascove struck me deeply and I purchased the book even just for the cover. It's since become my favorite work of literature and I must give my thanks to Bascove for this.

So I guess night at the museum stole his idea.
