Is there an adhesive that would work? Like super glue?
@TechAddictAttic
@TechAddictAttic 6 ай бұрын
Good thinking... It might exist, I don't know. As for super glue (and other adhesives in the "cyanoacrylate" family), it probably would only be short term if it did work. The way adhesives like superglue work is by slightly dissolving a plastic by way of an acetate solvent, which evaporates very quickly, allowing the plastics to recongeal together as a joined bond. In this case, *maybe* the top layer of the PCB would qualify as a dissolvable plastic, but the metal cup would not permanently adhere, and the flexure of pressing the button would soon break any bond that did happen to form. A flexible adhesive would be better, but you'd have to make certain not to get it *under* the cup because then if it's a conductive adhesive the "button" would be constantly "pressed" due to electrical contact being made, and if it's nonconductive, it would prevent electrical contact from ever being made, preventing it from working. For most viewers of my channel, some kind of tape (probably a cellophane-style tape like "invisible" gift-wrap tape) would be the most obtainable, easiest to use, and most forgiving (if you made a mistake and need to reposition one of the cups). I would avoid masking tape if possible and avoid electrician's tape at all costs, however, as both of these options have a residue that will flow in time, making a huge mess of the PCB, preventing operation eventually, and being difficult at best to clean off without damaging the PCB or the components on it (speaking from experience).

you can make a MUCH BETTER adapter with just a 1ml srynge (like 20 cents), a cord, a knife and some braincells. you just need to cut the tip in a section that mates well with the pen, or use a nail of the right diameter to shape it. and then dissasamble the srynge, cut the end so that it will fit inside the pen, do a knot in the cord and insert it in the plunger rubber. voilá now you can fill this up everytime by pushing the plunger with a stick and the drawing it back with the cord. this will prevent having to waste space to holde the plunger stick
@TechAddictAttic
@TechAddictAttic 7 ай бұрын
I think the plunger I use for refilling my cartridges is probably the same one. I hadn't even considered this, which is peculiar, given that I *have* used a syringe to flush out a nib! If it is like mine, I think I'd cut the plunger stem just a little above the rubber, make a small hole in the nub if a stem that's left over, and thread the string through the stem instead of the rubber. That way no leak through the string-to-rubber connection. One caveat: After a few dozen uses, the rubber likes to disconnect from the plunger. No big deal, just buy another twenty cent syringe. But, it's better to have a spare on hand, is the point. Great idea, though! I like how you think!

i wonder if we used another sound card and direction microphones to determine what direction thunder is coming from, the count time from ligtning detection till thinder and which mic detects it the loudest can we make a primitive detector that gives direction and distance away the lightning strike is?
@TechAddictAttic
@TechAddictAttic 9 ай бұрын
I don't see why not. Of course, you'd have to discriminate between thunder and the neighbors' hot rod or Harley, but it's definitely possible. In fact, something similar is already being used in larger cities to detect gunfire, determine direction, and trigger always-on cameras to save the last x-number-of-seconds of video from cameras pointed in that direction to network storage. And you might not need multiple sound cards. You might be able to get away with a really nice higher-end one that has multiple channel inputs. Would probably be more expensive than multiple cheap sound cards, but it would save expansion slots on your motherboard. The real trick would be writing the software. It would have to be able to read the inputs from the SDR, recognize the wideband static signature of a lightning discharge, mark the time received, and then recognize the sound of thunder from the microphone inputs. It could be done though.

How many volts of current do you put into the circuit.....? And without an amplifier, you can listen straight to it via a regular amplifier...?
@TechAddictAttic
@TechAddictAttic 9 ай бұрын
It's been a while since I've made one of these, so I don't remember but I do mention 9 volts in the video so I'm guessing I was using my little homemade variable voltage power supply. That said, the wonder of the crystal radio is it needs no power source to operate if you're using a simple germanium diode for a detector. However, you need a speaker (earphone) of a specific type to listen to it without amplification. In this video, I've replaced the germanium diode (detector) with a transistor, which of course did require a power source. It wouldn't be much, though. Probably a pair of AAA alkaline cells would be sufficient with the right transistor but of course you could also use a 12 volt sealed leaf acid battery or any voltage in between. Experiment! Current requirements would be quite low indeed... tens of milliamps, I would imagine. You probably could power it with a 2032 lithium button cell... Depending on the transistor used. Now the speakers are a different story. They'll require some power, but you see what I'm using is just an old set of computer speakers. There's nothing special there: just connect the speakers' input to the audio output of the crystal set and you're off to the races! It's cheating a little, but the point was to make a radio, not an audio amp (although I've done that, too, a few times, separately, so it's really not cheating so much as reusing modules). I hope I've answered your questions but I'm running in 3 hours of sleep last night and I'm about two hours past when I needed to be asleep tonight so I am not quite clearly thinking. If you have more questions, just ask, and I'll try to answer them with a clearer mind LOL.. Good luck, and good night!

I know this video is six years old but boy am I glad to find it! I have a few old Esterbrook cartridge pens and only one old cartridge that probably won't hold up forever. The Sheaffer cartridges can be made to fit te larger nipple of the Esterbrook feed, but in the pens I have, the Sheaffer cartridge is juuuust a bit too wide and will surely get stuck forever down in the body of the pen. I'm going to try this hack myself. I already checked a spray bottle I happened to have nearby and it does indeed fit. However, I'm gonna buy some spray nozzle replacement tubes from Amazon so I don't have to cannibalize my sprayer that I'm still using. And since they are as long as you need, I can try making my frankencartridge a little bit longer since it will end up being narrower as you showed. Thank you so much for making this!

You're quite welcome! I'm glad my hacker mentality can help someone else. In my experience with this trick, it did work, but wasn't perfect. You can also try sippy-cup straws, vinyl tubing, what have you. Also, some kinds of plastic can be dissolved partially in acetone, and if you're careful you might be able to flatten the end of a tube to an end that you can later drill to the right size (but I imagine this is way more effort than it would be worth). The point is, experiment!

Nothing special about this pen it's all cheap Chinese stuff ..usa?
@TechAddictAttic
@TechAddictAttic 2 жыл бұрын
True, although I believe you meant to comment on one of my other videos about pens and not the water sprayer. Yeah, I made those videos... wow, five years ago, this one... so it's been a minute.. In that time I've come to the conclusion that nothing on the market today beats the vintage stuff from the 60s and older. My favorite pens to write with so far have been Esterbrook J series from 1948-49. I've had some Shaeffers, a couple of Parkers (surprisingly disappointing in their performance), and each of the (only two) Monteverdes I've used have been faulty in one way or another, one of them brand new! But, *EVERY* *SINGLE* *ONE* of the Chinese pens I've bought and used have left ink on my shirt pocket or my hand for no apparent reason. They write great at first, but very quickly dry up or are so wet you'll have a puddle in a minute. Even had one start blobbing right as I wrote with it. You'd have thought it was eyedroppered (I've never eyedroppered a pen and experiences like that make me not want to try). No, I'm not interested in cheap Chinese pens any more. That's one of the reasons I haven't done a new pen video in so long. There's nothing worth videoing! I've determined the only ones lately of any quality were made in the United States, maybe Great Britain or Canada, and possibly France ("true" Waterman). It's shameful to today's generations. "The Greatest Generation" (as I've heard them called so often in my life) fought in World War II. They are the same people who made the most useful, best and highest quality, ... well, everything. You'd never know it to look at them but even the paperclips they made that have lasted to today are just better. From paperclips to aircraft engines, everything manufactured up to about 1955 or 1960 was just a higher quality; and while the decline was slow at first, eventually corporate greed and "let's save a tenth of a cent on manufacturing the new version by using a less durable component, and sell the new version for fifty dollars more, and because it'll break down sooner, they'll buy a new one sooner" took hold and that's where we are today. And don't get me started on government meddling in the affairs of manufacturers forcing them to install monitors and sensors and checks and all that. Sure, the intent was valiant, but the result is often poorly implemented and for the wrong reasons ("electronic stop-start" for fuel economy? BULL!). Everything. **EVERYTHING** is made as cheaply as possible, with as high a markup as the manufacturers and retailers think they can get away with, and the poor plebs on the streets are all too willing to shill out more dollars because they think they have to. Cars are an excellent example. Today's $40,000 base model vehicle with only a few "luxury" items (which aren't really) will run the price up 25% to $50,000. Why are they so expensive in the first place? They're made with LESS metal today, more plastic, but hundreds more tiny little nuances in the powertrain that are nothing more than extra points of failure to make you bring it in "for service" so they can find eight other things you "really should get taken care of while it's here so you won't be left stranded on the roadside" that really aren't even an issue. Cars from the 50s and 60s, even into the 70s... they just don't have that problem. They're simpler. Yes, they burn gas faster, but there are ways to improve that, too, without resorting to the tactics of today's manufacturing... Case in point, I had a volkswagen beetle with the 1600cc motor and regularly got 25 mpg in it. I haven't had ANY car since get that good an economy. My nephew had a 5-speed 86 Chrysler that got 42 mpg according to its computer -- which are known to be a little off, usually, but they're close. He probably was getting 35 mpg easy. Then you add eBay and Amazon, OrientalTrading and AliExpress... find anything outside of steel wool or pencils that's still made in the US, and it'll be ten times the price. I have my opinions on that, too, but by the middle of the first actual paragraph, this reply was already longer than 99% of today's generation would bother to read. So with that I bid you adieu!

how to remove the white circle?
@TechAddictAttic
@TechAddictAttic 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to remember, it was five years ago, but most likely a very thin, skinny object. A pocketknife is usually both too thick and too wide. You might do well with a smaller-sized paperclip straightened out, or you might have to get creative. If I recall correctly, that white circle has a tiny hole in it too let air through. You might be able to use needle-nose pliers to make a very small hook on the end of a straightened paperclip and pull it out with that otherwise maybe something like a mechanic's feeler gauge might be able to be wedged into the space between the circle and the cap and pry it out. I really don't remember though, I'm sorry. Good luck, regardless!

Do you have any military bases nearby? Possibly a major airport or even air traffic center? I suspect it is a form of over-the-horizon RADAR, and the ex-military guy I asked at work who might know gave me the kind of "well I can't not confirm nor not deny not maybe knowing something to possibly indicate you may or may not be on to something" response you'd expect from someone who'd signed some form of NDA about it. But that's not to say that he wasn't just pulling my leg, either. That said, the repetitive nature, as well as the harmonic relationship to each other, of the frequencies does seem to imply a kind of "scan". I assume the difference in the "tones" will present a different return on the reflected signal. Perhaps it helps determine size of objects causing reflections, I don't know. I assume it's not air traffic control related, or it would be constant. It could be Navy ships just outside international waters boundary. I suppose it could be some form of data encoding, There are a few things I do know 1. It's not always the same speed. Sometimes the changes in pitch are rapid, sometimes so show that several seconds pass between changes. 2. It's not on a regular periodic schedule that I can tell (but honestly I haven't tried to really really track it). 3. Often I hear a "digital buzz chirp" sound on cheapie computer speakers when this phenomenon occurs. I've heard it on speakers at home, at work, and even interfering on some amateur radio gear (usually a chirp after the repeater user unkeys before the repeater drops). Whatever it is, I'm certain it's a completely earthly, mundane, everyday thing. We just happened to be listening with the right tool at the right time to hear it.

Yes, this thing was a beast when I had it. The problem was the camera lens breaking meant I had a choice: send it back for repair and maybe I'll get it back within three months, maybe with my data still on it, or fix it myself. Of course I did the latter. What I didn't know, though, was the waterproofing is more like a caulk or an RTV seal than a gasket and cannot be reused. The phone body will not reseal to the old, cured sealant bead. It must be resealed if it's opened in order to retain its waterproof characteristics. But yeah, I'm not surprised it's lasted you so long! It's a good device -- not great, not fantastic, but it will last with just a little care.

Spying in us? Well, in reality, I'm not sure there's a smartphone made these days that doesn't. It's one of the reasons the first thing I do is flash a custom ROM. Even if it's not completely vanilla, at least some of the spyware-ish bits are gone or disabled. Even then, I don't know if I'd put it like "spying", but maybe so. There's definitely a marketing-tracking service preinstalled, but back when I made that video it was easily disabled. However, that same service provided firmware updates, so it wasn't completely useless. Still, that wasn't all that service did, and it was a little creepy. I don't really remember much about that though... It's been a long time since I've done any reading about that phone. I'm currently on my second one after the BV9500 Pro, and this one I've even had a year and a half or so, so it's been a while! Happy New Year! Hi. At about 05:53 there could be seen that the Main camera was "dangling" on that "main-module". Can you please tell me if the camera is easy to replace once that "main-module" is exposed? Mine is broken and I want to replace it. But i want to make sure that it is doable. Thank you!

Happy New Year to you as well! I wish I could answer your question. I moved off of that Blackview through an LG G5 then maybe a year later (and a little over a year ago) I picked up a OnePlus 7T. I don't remember how convoluted the BV9500 was in that regard, but rewatching the video here, there's a reason I didn't continue disassembly. Other devices usually have connectors for ribbon cable attached modules, rather than directly soldering them to the boards, but I have seen them done both ways. As the camera's cable was never fully exposed, I cannot answer your question. I would recommend doing a search on eBay, AliExpress, Amazon and the like to see if the camera module for the 9500 is available separately. If so, I'd say it can be done. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the same module was used in multiple devices, they probably used the same assembly, same ribbon cable, etc. so you probably could -- if it can be sourced -- be replaced. Good luck, I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

@@TechAddictAttic well thank you anyway for your time. I found both rear cameras as spare parts on aliexp. The Problem is that I dont know which is broken. Can I ask your opinion? Where Can I send a Photo to you?

@@tudorusturica7932 for security reasons I don't provide my e-mail address. However, you could upload to your Google drive and post a link here, and when someone tries to access the file you'll be notified and you can allow access then. Alternatively do a video instead of photo and upload to your KZbin and post a link here. Either way, I doubt I'll be much help. I haven't even looked at that phone in over two years. I liked the concept but it was so poorly implemented (for my use case) that any further time spent on it would have been a waste for me. The main camera was, if memory serves, 8 MP. The other camera was just a distance and focus judgement camera: not even in color. There was a test mode you could get into by powering on while holding certain buttons, or actually it might have been one of those secret engineering modes you get into by dialing a certain "*#" code. Anyway, that mode lets you test individual components -- like the individual cameras -- for their functionality. Look for engineering test codes for the bv9500 and I bet you can find what you need.

@@TechAddictAttic i Did the Thing with the Photo in the Drive. But my reply is Not posted. I Just saw that if I Zoom in ...the Cracks Lines are Not visible anymore. IT seams that the 16 MP main camera is the problem. What is the Role of the Seconds camera: "0.3MP Vice Rear Camera" ?

@@tudorusturica7932 my understanding, though I am not 100% certain, is that the secondary low-resolution camera is solely for metrics, e.g. focal depth, light measurement, color correction for various light (fluorescent versus incandescent), et cetera. Beyond that, it apparently serves little to no purpose. I'm not sure why they couldn't use the main camera for those purposes, unless maybe having a second, dedicated sensor speeds up the process.

After watching how to disassemble, nothing really worked to fix the trigger getting stuck issue. So I ended up stretching the spring out about 1/4 longer and bam it's fixed, been having this issue for years. Now the spray bottle shoots much further as well, I use the mist function on mine, it doesn't affect the mist.

I reassembled a water sprayer that I had taken apart for demonstration. I'm not sure that's the info you're looking for, though.

I randomly ran across your video, and I can't even say I'm your target audience. What I can say is that I understand the time & energy commitment of recording projects, so kudos for prioritizing life! KZbin folks will still be around when you're ready. ❤

Okay I got a problem. What would cause a spray bottle to work in reverse? My fertilizer spray bottle just started ejecting water from the down spout and sucks air from the spray nozzle.

I honestly couldn't say without seeing it as there are a few ways to make these, but the only way I can think of that this could happen is if the check valve in the pickup somehow was reversed. I really don't know, however. I only know the ones I've taken apart and I don't see how this condition is possible in the ones I have. I'm sorry I can't help better.
