First realize that most people are more emotional than rational. Read the book “Thinking Fast and Slow” to see proof of this first realization. The book describes our minds as being like an emotional elephant with only a logical tail trying to steer it. The tail usually just follows the emotional beast. Then realize that ignorant primitive men created thousands of gods as we evolved and tried to understand the world around us. See the book “National Geographic Concise History of World Religions”. We knew little and made-up answers to help us deal with a very scary world. Most people simply believe the religion they were taught as children and this depends primarily on where you are born. Not many are curious enough to read the whole Bible or study other religions. Most every religion says it is the truth and that all others are invalid. With thousands of religions being proposed, the odds are slim that yours is the truth. Now to the question of why “science” doesn’t support the claims that there is a God or many gods. Science is our best tool for determining what is true. It looks at a claim (or hypothesis) to see if there is any information that supports it. Any evidence must be reproducible and statistically valid. If we look at Christianity and the Bible, there are many claims to test. Examples include: God answers your prayers, God created the universe in a week, and God killed everyone except Noah’s family in a great flood. Dozens of studies on the success of praying show nothing but a placebo effect, there is much evidence the universe is very old and evolved over billions of years, and there is no geographical evidence of a worldwide flood. So, these and most of the Bible’s claims appear untrue. Also, the Bible contains no information that wasn’t known to man at that time. It would have been nice if God mentioned germ theory. Unfortunately, believing ancient religious claims dumbs us down and inhibits our understanding of things like DNA and evolution, which can help us treat disease. Final things to consider are God’s immoral rules in the Bible. Example: in Deuteronomy 22-21 we are told to stone to death a woman who is not a virgin on her wedding day. And Leviticus 20-9 tells us to kill a child if they strike or curse their parents. Does our loving God really burn us in Hell for eternity if we don’t love him back? Turns out we need to use our own human values to decide which of God’s rules in his Holy book is morally acceptable. And, where is this supernatural world people believe in located? Most likely just in their heads…

Thank you I needed to listen to encouraging words as my hope has dwindled into a light breeze that departs quickly with not even a chill of its memory......hope fades hope becomes a hopeless journey into a road of holes and detours and ya tire of the journey and finally you HOPE you can hold on by a thread of hope as tears flow from your eyes and there is one glimmer of "hope" you desperately hang on to Amen hope we can't "see it" but we sure want to believe in it!

A good reminder that we must start every day as a new day. Not taking yesterday’s encounters into a new day. And my self righteousness. Wow that was a good reminder too. Thank you so much. Has cleared things up for me.

Starting each day fresh and leaving behind the past is such an important practice, and it’s wonderful to see it making a positive impact. Self-righteousness can be a tricky thing to navigate, but recognizing it is a crucial step toward growth and humility. We are blessed and keep striving for better each day!

When Lazarus died, Jesus wept, this is a testimony of how much he loved him, grief for a lost one is the testimony of how much we are going to miss the one we love
@TheOneGuidingLight13 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing this beautiful reflection. Jesus weeping at Lazarus’ death is indeed a powerful testament to His deep love and compassion. Grief truly reflects the profound love and connection we have with those we’ve lost. It’s a reminder of the impact they had on our lives and how much they will be missed. May we find comfort in these memories and the hope that comes from our faith.

How do the writings of C. S. Lewis compare to those of Thomas Paine who is quite possibly or even probably the main cause of the American Revolution? How many Americans were horrified to learn about the beliefs of Thomas Paine after the American Revolution that he likely caused? How likely is it that there would have been an American Revolution if the writings of C. S. Lewis were as widely read as those of Thomas Paine?
