Not a very big year for customs but regardless a fun year overall, I really like the handmade feel your work gives through the crude lining and this was the year of buildings that Marion looks immaculate. I can’t wait to see what you concoct this year!

This is a great review! I'm shocked Sam goes for so much considering his lack of functionality. Really appreciated the detailed look at everything, and I will agree it does look so empty, I actually assumed that there would be another loop in the section shown at 12:06, shocked there isn't one. Maybe its why the 2022 TWR has a lack of sets (or lack compared to the previous amounts we got), they'd probably be as mediocre as this! Stellar review, please do more!

The set feeling empty from a certain quadrant/section of the layout is probably intentional, as a Sam and the Great Bell track expansion pack was sold separately that enhances the layout and makes it feel like actually complete and much more exciting than just two circles in the track layout. It even adds a significant elevated track section to it.

10:08 Sam, in my opinion, is a major let down in this set. When you see him in the CGI promos, he's a massive articulated steam engine with two sets of driving wheels. And his wooden model is basically a longer Gordon. Him struggling on hills and corners is a major let down. The Virginia Museum Of Transportation released a wooden N&W 1218, a similar sized locomotive to Sam's basis, and it has more wheels and is much longer then Sam. Despite it being bigger than Sam, it actually can go up hill and around corners perfectly. The fact that Mattel, a million dollar company made a smaller engine, with less wheels, that performs worse on track is sad. They have the teams and money to do better, but they didn't. Fantastic review, your customs are amazing.

This was a fantastic review, Nick! Super well-worded and honestly nothing I disagree with here. Funny enough, we seem to have the opposite issues with the track connecting to the tower and the ironworks, as my tower track is really lose and ironworks is really tight.

Welcome back, Nick. With a lot of time to mull over Mattel's treatment of TWR overall, it's kind of sad to see even pre-Wood era things were still not great. So many choices made to the products that just made them age worse with hindsight. They did make some truly nice items, but those feel more like an exception than the rule. It really does suck because it was like the writing was on the wall long before things really went down the tube. While I think this set is nice, it's definitely NOT $250 nice. Maybe more like $100 nice if I'm being generous and justify all the plastic bits.

What a coincidence! I got this set pretty recently as a bonus when a friend sent me this cool giant cardboard box. He ended up saying a lot of similar things to you in this video almost word for word and I’m inclined to agree. Seriously though this was a really good review. The Sodor Story sets aren’t the worst, but they definitely don’t feel as “premium” as they were advertised in hindsight and you did a good job highlighting the reasons for that. Thanks again for sending me this set, I’ll cherish it and all its midness.

Looking back, they should've given him 10 or 12 wheels for accuracy sake. Besides that, Sam is one of my favorite characters in the entire TTTE canon. I wish Mattel saw the potential to teach kids about steam articulates using him, that way we didn't have idiotic flat-earther-like assholes in the fandom that question how a OC I made off of a mallet or a garratt goes around curves. Oh yeah, and he's just a good design too.

A decade ago, we had a Mattel that actually cared about Thomas the Tank Engine. Thomas had high-quality episodes and high-quality merchandise lines, and his show had a comfortable home on PBS. Around this time, among the high-quality merchandise lines were the Thomas Wooden Railway Specialty Sets, which could be bought at certain stores and the official Thomas Wooden Railway website, back when it still existed. I bought many things from that website back when it still existed. Besides Logan, Sam, and Dustin, I also bought their accessory packs, Origins James, the Advent calendar, the Letters to Santa 2-car pack, and select pieces of track. It wasn't just that store where you could buy Thomas Wooden Railway items; they were sold at stores like A.C. Moore as well, and their sales helped keep those stores in business. Unfortunately, the good times were not to last. In late 2017, Mattel started to mistreat Thomas. They discontinued Thomas Wooden Railway after 25 successful years and replaced it with the inferior Thomas wood line. They also pulled Thomas' TV show from PBS despite Thomas having twice been a long-running staple of that network, pulled Edward and Henry from the Steam Team in favor of Nia and Rebecca, and made DVD releases more scarce. Things got worse for Thomas in the years that followed, as by 2020, the 1984 series came to an end and was replaced by a spin-off that the Rev. W. Awdry would never have approved of and Britt Allcroft has officially denounced, and while Thomas Wooden Railway has been re-introduced in 2022, Mattel barely did anything new with it in the following years, giving us at most, new Day Out With Thomas models, a celebration pack of already existing characters, and a new set. I have cut ties with Mattel due to their horrid mistreatment of Thomas, and I feel Thomas' quality can only improve if another company, like Orbrium, acquires the license.

A great review Nick! This set definitely has Its advantages and disadvantages. I've never noticed the golden sleepers on the track, and I absolutely love the two pieces of cargo that come with it, and because I'm that one guy I would love to own that Blue Mountain Quarry sign just for set purposes. But the good within the set is outweighed by the bad I'd say. While I'm not too concerned with owning the set, I would love to get Sam myself. But I've also been mulling over the idea of making a custom of him as well. Speaking of the promotion for your 3D printed trucks within this review was absolutely priceless. Also, a tip the tracks that have the knobs on them. If they're the exact same size, I would suggest flipping them around so that the ironworks piece stays connected to the track and the tracks don't buckle by the bell tower. Trap up this comment great review. man, I would love to see more in this style Happy Thanksgiving, and keep up the good work.

My thoughts: I feel like they should replace Percy and add either Arry or Bert, because of the iron works building there. I do agree that Sam’s space between his gears should be closer. The two mountains should connect I agree & throw in an iron beam along with the bell too.
