As a long time fan of this franchise, I totally agree with the whole, “redesigning the character is what saved these”. When I saw the first trailer for the first movie, I basically looked back on Smurfs, Yogi Bear and the Chipmunks, remembered that Hollywood HATES using appealing, cartoony character designs for some reason, shrugged and went, “yeah, seems about right”. Changing the design probably made the fans say, “Wait, this looks like…effort.” The fact that the director actually worked on some of the games probably helped (I think he directed some of the cutscenes). Anyway, Happy Holidays! 😀

I don’t know why Hollywood makes it so hard on themselves lol having more accurate designs and decent enough writing will go a long way. Even though these aren’t my favorite films I’m just glad the fans of the video games are finally getting decent film adaptations. Thank you! I hope you have a Happy New Year!!!

I feel as if there would be two ways to improve this movie. 1. Age up the kids to High School, and have them be played by young adults. That way the movie can be as wild as it wants. 2. Replace Satan with Krampus, and have him "Punish" bad children by empowering their victims.
@WeAreFilmStash18 күн бұрын
The premise of the devil getting mixed up with Santa itself isn’t terrible, and with better acting and writing could have worked. Under better execution I imagined the comedy/tone of this movie to be more akin to Bad Santa. However, your suggestion of making the antagonistic force Krampus instead isn’t a bad idea at all. Krampus certainly won’t ruffle as many feathers, and the idea could still technically be done after the failure of this dud. I just think having the Farrelly bros being anywhere near this idea is what ultimately ruined it.

She also wrote the script, and it´s her second film.... I´m definetly gonna watch " revenge" her first movie. That´s the thing with french, they use nudity "in-pro" the narrative. and they usually pull it off ( not that i´ve watched a lot of french films ) . Although some times they are like, somewhat really slow... but, hey, I loved 7 ans of marriage. and it´s from the late 90´s.
@WeAreFilmStash2 ай бұрын
Thank you for commenting! I agree, the longer I’ve sat down with this ending, the more it worked for me too. In looking up information for this film, her other movie, Revenge, has come up quite a lot. So that’s definitely a film I need to add to my watch-list even knowing it centers on a heavy subject matter. I’m not too familiar with French cinema either so that’s probably why the nudity caught me and my friends off guard. We did eventually get used to it since the nudity wasn’t for gratuitous reasons, as it went hand in hand with the wacky tone and message. What are some other French films you have seen?

Im getting the impression that this is a Matrix 4 situation. Meaning...there was a perfectly adequate, self contained story with no need fo a follow up. But studio execs demanded it. So tje creator trolled them into the dirt, so badly it ruins the well recieved precursor films...Laughing all the way to the bank. This film WAS perfectly compatible with the Bale verse films. But the shoehorned ending ruins it
@WeAreFilmStash3 ай бұрын
Pretty much, we’ll probably hear the full TELL ALL story from Todd Phillips or Joaquin Phoenix decades from now on how they trolled Warner Bros. Maybe not in terms of quality, but in terms of the tone I agree both these films and Christopher Nolan’s trilogy could be compatible with each other. The decision to even imply it could be Heath Ledger’s Joker at the end is just straight up baffling.

As far as anime, my favourite series ever is Cowboy Bebop. You said you like sci-fi and comedy, so you should love it, I would think (it isn’t a comedy, but it is often very funny). If you end up checking it out, make sure to get the movie also. It fits in the timeline at about two thirds of the way through the series. I also second the Ghost in the Shell recommendation another commenter made. Those movies are fairly essential when it comes to anime sci-fi, and do have some similar themes to what it sound as though this Terminator series is about.
@WeAreFilmStash3 ай бұрын
I’ll definitely check out Cowboy Bebop as well as Ghost in the Shell someday. My first exposure to the CBB anime was constantly hearing people dunk on the Netflix Live Action adaptation when it came out a few years back.
@juliusarchibaldiv38803 ай бұрын
@WeAreFilmStash I personally couldn't get into CBB even though a bunch of the Guyver 89-91 dub actors were in it, but those that bash it along with any of the other Live Action movies clearly haven't seen MAtLA Adaptations at their worst. There was a time 1991s Live Action The Guyver was considered the worst, then it was Fist of the North Star, then a toss between Dragon Ball Evolution and Speed Racer. But quite frankly it's easier to turn a Live Action adaptation of an IP into an anime than an Anime into a Live Action.
@juliusarchibaldiv38803 ай бұрын
I want to recommend for animes two of my top favorites: The Guyver - Guyver Out of Control (1986) - The Guyver: Bio Booster Armor (Original 12 part series that ran from 1989-1991) - The Guyver (1991s Live Action movie with Mark Hammill in it & the first American Live action adaptation of an anime if Im not mistaken) - Guyver: Dark Hero ( 1994s direct to VHS sequel to the first Live Action movie with David Hayter in it) - Guyver: The Bio-Boosted Armor (2005 and most accurate representation of the manga to date, with the author authorizing or making some of the changes to the story) And here is a huge suggestion if you liked Terminator Zero: I recommend watching Ghost in the Shell-anything and everything, including the Live-Action movie and Stand Alone Complex 2045. - Ghost in the Shell 1995 - Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence - Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex (Season 1), 2nd Gig (season 2) Solid State Society (animated movie) - Ghost in the Shell Arise and The New Movie (which has a passing of the torch with in one of the scenes wont say were though) - Ghost in the Shell 2017 - Live Action Netflix's Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex 2045 (I would recommend you watch SAC/2ndGig/SSS first before watching this series) I do like others like Witchblade, Elfen Lied, Marvel's Blace, Gundam 08th MS Team, Battle Angel, and a few more. But as a whole Guyver and Ghost in the Shell are my top 2.
@WeAreFilmStash3 ай бұрын
Thank you for the recommendations, I’ll definitely look into the Guyver series for sure! I know for people who like anime this could be a point of contention against me, but I own the Ghost in the Shell anime in 4K, but have only seen the live action one with Scarlet Johansson, I bought the 4K LOOOOONG after viewing the remake. I didn’t think it was a bad movie by any means, but definitely understand how people got upset over the race swap of The Major.
@juliusarchibaldiv38803 ай бұрын
@WeAreFilmStash Most welcome! And I wouldn't consider it a point of contention if you use the lie action Golhost in the Shell as a starting point to the series. I was introduced to Guyver with the live action movies first then the animes
