Gents, you did allude to a couple of reasons, but I was hoping for a more technical review rather than being told the torque value was important! The bearings we are talking about here either press against each other or against a spacer. Once clamped together, say 100lbft, then why would an extra 100 to 200 lbft make any difference? Are we talking about metal deformation? A reason you gave is that it needs the high values to seat the bearings into place, another reason given was to hold the splined shaft up tight against the hub. OK so why not just tighten everything to 300 lbft? Put another way, what difference would it make if one rated for 100 was tightened to 300 since nothing is actually moving once seated?

Thanks for the video. For the people that don't understand this, they should not be considering doing simple brake work themselves. Just take it to a shop.

I have a 2011 Mercury Milan premier my wheel bearing seems to be tight grabbing the wheel at 6:00 and 12:00 grabbing the wheel at 3:00 and 9:00.. I put a pair of vice grips on the cv shaft so I can check the end play they seem to be nice and tight.. no rips in the boots.. but when I turn left I hear some crunching noise sometimes when I give it hard gas I hear some crackling.. when I go down the road and hit a lot of cracks or little potholes I hear a lot of slapping and banging I'm thinking it's the intermediate bearing itself.. why do you have to buy the whole shaft and not be able to just change the bearing?.

I have a Audi quattro and I noticed my car does a pretty loud clunk noise when I turn it on,sometimes when I reverse and sometimes when just idling…And everytime I press the gas pedal very fast you hear and feel a clunk.Same for when I break but if I do it slowly then nothing happends…Very strange…But what’s interesting is if I press the gas or breaks VERY GENTLY and slowly the one time clunk goes away everytime…And everytime I do it fast I can hear it

You guys might get a lot of business in the future for the Ford Maverick owners. CV axles seem to be a known issue and I don’t think the ones being replaced by Ford dealers are any better.

I do not install parts on my customers' cars by price or "budget". Having been burned by cheesy parts over the 48+ years I've been in this business, I preach "Dollar" value to the customer, coupled with a statement of interest for the customer's benefit: "I value NOT getting the phone call for the corner of Walk and Don't Walk, your driveway, or at the grocery store where you are having issues with work I've done, and now, your perishables are melting in the 100 degree heat. In this business, I cherish the follow-up phone call I make when the customer says they are happy with the repairs I've done. "The bitterness of poor quality far outlasts the pain of higher cost to get good quality".

I understand the technical side of this video. However how do you expect technicians to follow this process where the rubber meets the road. The customer isn't going to pay the extra labor time for this process. Next, there usually isn't the paid extra man power to break in the brake pads. You would be far fetched to find a dealer / independent to pay extra wages for this procedure. These new young technicians are going to get beat down hard for doing this process at there first new work place. I think you need to spend more time on the importance of the latest proper diagnosis techniques than teaching these out of the world practices. Macias Diagnostics LLC, Cumming GA, 34 years as a professional technician. Dealership trained 24 years.
